My letter to Senator Levin
The Honorable Carl Levin
269 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING
WASHINGTON DC 20510

Dear Senator Levin,

I write to beg you to stand with your colleague, Rep. Conyers, on January 6 to contest the 2004 election.

You are thoughtful and honorable man, and you have demonstrated time and again your commitment to an honest and transparent government. As I’m sure you know, we stand at a crucial moment in our country’s history, and millions of Americans, literally, will be holding their breath on January 6 to see if one senator will take a stand against the theft of our country’s most important institution: the right to vote.

The evidence of criminal fraud in the Ohio election, and in many other states, is massive. By now, you will likely have received at least the draft of Rep. Conyers' letter detailing this evidence. The very democratic character of our nation is hanging by a thread. I plead with you to don the full measure of your authority and responsibility as a Senator of the United States to expose this corruption which drains the very soul of our country.

By the rules, the contest of the vote in Ohio can only last two hours. It is not much, but it is a start. If a contest of the vote in Florida and New Mexico and several other states could be added, with the appropriate time allotted to each, there is a very good chance the country will come to realize the extent of the crime that has been committed against it.

Next week, by news reports, meetings will be held among those in the House and Senate who believe they can effect a significant, even historic, transition in our country – from chaos to order, from deceit to truth. I pray you will do all in your power to assist this most important effort.

I am grateful for your good work, and remain

Sincerely yours,
xxxxxxxxxx

2. Letters are better
Thank you for taking the longer and more effective route to contacting your Senator. I will write Mark Dayton-MN. There are calls on DU to "blast" e-mails and faxes to Senators and the media (freeper tactic). This clogs systems and causes havoc. Letters can be sent via Priority Mail and it will get there in 2-3 days.

16. Except for what mail has to go through now before it is read.
On many of the senate websites they warn that mail takes much longer to actually get to them because it has to go through a long screening process.

7. Yes, it'd be an honor!
I suppose if you're writing to a senator of the female persuasion, it'd be good to change the appropriate pronouns! lol!

5. My letter to 2/3 of the democratic senate, plus Hilary and Chuck
We know you got the Conyers letter today.

Dear Senators,

You have a choice. That's your job. You will now decide if the people called Americans run their country, of if they are slaves to big business. Am I what America used to mean, or, is this the United States of Neo-Con, and I just pay the bill? Do you and I matter, or, do we give this economy up to PNAC? Are we for peace and prosperity, or war and terror?

I remember singing "This land is your land, this land is my land" in school. I used to believe that. If none of you object to the fraud in Ohio on Jan 6th, then this land is a land of lying fascists, and a handfull of bloated CEO's who hold all the power and all the money. Your choice is this: Are you with us, the regular american people, or are you a corporate sell-out?

If you don't stand up for us, your democratic groundswell is history. It's Pink Tu-Tu check time. We're asking for your vote.
The American People

9. I emailed AND snailmailed mine, text below
Dear Mr. Levin,

It is my belief that much investigation is needed into the Ohio vote before a new President can be fairly decided. Therefore, as a citizen of the United States and your constituent, I request that you act in accordance with the will of the people and contest the election results prior to Mr. Bush’s Inauguration. According to the Electoral Count Act of 1887, your voice is a necessary accompaniment to those in the House that plan to contest. Some are petitioning Senator Barbara Boxer, but I would like the outcry to extend beyond California, as Michigan may someday be a “key” state. The message needs to be sent loud and clear: We will not have our President decided by crooked practices and last minute legal disenfranchisement.

I know that my words speak for thousands, if not millions, around the U.S. that feel the 2004 vote was inaccurate and quite possibly fraudulent. If you have any questions about the mood of the Democratic community, please email me and I will be happy to provide you with excellent, credible resources involving real people who are extraordinarily concerned about our futures in this country.

Sincerely,

mycatforpresident

His reply to the email was on topic, but canned. Which is as well because I can't find it.

12. About SnailMail!!!
If sent to the DC office there is a long delay (weeks) because of local raging paranoia.

If you sent snailmail, call to say you sent it and summarize (or read) your letter to staff.

From our website: www.thedeanpeople.org (Click on What To Do - Now! for working links)

-- Personal contact is of course best. If you can meet with your Senator
or Rep and hand them the Declaration personally, that would be ideal. If
you have any personal connection, no matter how remote, now's the time
to use it. Sample meeting request and Yahoo group for reporting/viewing
status of requests and results. Please call if you want to discuss talking
points in advance of any meeting.

-- Snail mail with a personal note would be next best. But DO NOT
snail mail to their DC offices. US mail is delayed and radiated before it
reaches Members. Find a local office to mail the Declaration to.

-- Faxing to them would be the next best. Either local or DC office
should do, but the DC staff is usually more important to the boss. You can
use our Action Alert page to send a pre-made fax that you can
customize.

-- Hand delivery by a messager is another option. Send a telegram or
use the the Extra Impact option at Congress.org. For example, this
message was hand-delivered to Capital Hill.

-- Finally, emailing is good too. You can just email the URL or post the
text in your email. You should avoid using email attachments as they can
contain viruses and are rarely opened. You can use our Action Alert
page to send an email to both Senators and your Rep at the same.

However you convey your message, try to follow up with an office
visit or phone call to ask for a response. See the FAQ section for
talking points. Let others know what happened by posting the response
here.

18. I've seen warnings about local mail as well, but...
...I've not had that confirmed by anyone.

And if it's local, why not drop it off in person?

You may get chatting to the local staff.

Far better than any other form of message.

Dear Senator Levin,

I am one of many who are very disturbed to hear about reports of voter disenfranchisement and suppression that happened during the 2004 election across America and particularly Ohio.

Free and fair elections are crucial tenet to our democracy. How can our country tout our democratic principles to the world when we ourselves are subject to doubts about our election system?

From the reports I've seen about Ohio, it seems our precious advances in civil rights have been set back 50 years! The evidence from Ohio and other parts of the country shows there WERE NOT free and fair elections. This evidence goes back 4 years ago to the 2000 elections. When the counting of the electors was in progress then, several representatives (african americans, may I remind you) contested. Where were the senators to join?

This time, again, there is an opportunity to stand up against the eroding of our democracy. Representative John Conyers, among others, has spearheaded investigations into the 2004 elections. He has now publicly stated that he will object to counting of the electors in order to foster debate in both houses and he has forwarded an invitation to you and others to join. It is your patriotic duty, sir, to stand and object with Congressman Conyers.

A line has been drawn.

And I and many others will be watching to see who does what.

Sincerely,

one to stabenow also...

I helped petition to get Carl Levin on the ballot. I like him. He's been fighting to get at the truth behind Iraq, etc, leading senate intelligence committee. He hates Bush.

19. I e-mailed both Carl and Debbie
a while ago. I got a canned letter back from Carl, but nothing from Debbie. I hope at least one of them stands up with Conyers next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
