Courageous Schakowsky (D-IL): WAS 2004 ELECTION STOLEN? "ONLY ANSWER YES"
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 06:31 PM by IndyOp
To EVERYONE at DU and beyond who has invested HEART & SOUL & HOPE & ENERGY & DIGNITY to reveal the truth many of us have known since November 3, 2004 -

Here IT is:

Congresswoman 'Apologizes' for Not Taking Allegations of Stolen 2004 Election Seriously! Was it Stolen? 'Only Answer is Yes,' says Schakowsky who Claims DCCC to Announce Steps Soon to Avoid 'Repeat Performance'

From the Congresswoman:

For us, it (winning 2006 elections) must all be about execution.

First, we must not allow the Republicans to steal the election-again. <snip>

I apologize for not taking seriously enough the allegations that the 2004 election was stolen. After reading Bobby Kennedy's article in Rolling Stone, "Was the 2004 Election Stolen?", I am convinced that the only answer is yes. He documents how 357,000 Ohio voters, the vast majority Democrats, "were prevented from casting ballots or did not have their votes counted…more than enough to shift the results." Watch for the DCCC to take some very public steps in the near future to ward off a repeat performance. In the meantime, there needs to be a citizens' effort starting now to assess the machines, the ballots, the registration process within each and every election jurisdiction in each and every swing district and state, in the case of Senate races. Where the situation looks perilous, go to the media, raise a stink, demand changes. This is a great project for the many of you who have been diligently working to guarantee fair and accurate elections.

This Breaking News Brought to you by BRADBLOG - Schakowsky - Take Back America

Congresswoman Shakowsky's remarks about what we need to do to win are good throughout - commonsense & honest:

TAKE BACK AMERICA CONFERENCE - June 14, 2006

Remarks of Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky

1) First, we must not allow the Republicans to steal the election-again.

2) We have to mobilize the voters who are already with us, and run picture perfect, aggressive, leave no voter behind GOTV, Get Out the Vote campaign.

3) We have to persuade the persuadables. (I'll go more into each of these.)

4) We have to travel. I'll tell you about the Committee of 100 in my district.

5) We need to keep our eyes on the prize - beating the Republicans.

1) Stealing: I apologize for not taking seriously enough the allegations that the 2004 election was stolen.

2) GOTV: "Intensity equals turnout." That is one of the political truths that we must NOT rely on. The Republicans learned about grassroots organizing from us and learned it well. We must count on their willingness and capacity to drag out their voters. There is a reason that they are throwing red meat at their base - Constitutional Amendments on same-sex marriage and Flag burning, and demonizing immigrants. They are attempting to motivate and mobilize their base voters. They also successfully targeted individual Republican voters in Democratic precincts, not just relying on larger demographic data. Their operation was often more sophisticated than ours. But we know how to do mobilization. It's grassroots, door-to-door campaigns that enable us to beat them on the ground. Air strikes - radio and TV, just get you so far; the personal contact drives home the point. As great as job as we did in 2004, we need to do it more and better.

3) PERSUASION: In 2004, the Republicans left no constituency untouched. Their goal was to shave off just enough points from Jewish voters or Hispanic voters. For the first time, they won the majority of Catholics. Why did we lose Catholics? They had a Catholic strategy, and we didn't. I'm told that Karl Rove met with selected Bishops and lay leaders on a weekly basis. Millions of "Voter Guides for Serious Catholics" were distributed both inside churches and, if that wasn't an option, outside the churches. It says, "This voter's guide identifies 5 'non-negotiable' issues and helps you narrow down the list of acceptable candidates, whether they are running for national, state, or local offices. Candidates who endorse or promote any of the 5 non-negotiables should be considered to have disqualified themselves from holding public office, and you should not vote for them." "It is a serious sin to endorse or promote any of these actions: 1. Abortion 2. Euthanasia 3. Fetal Stem Cell Research 4.Human Cloning 5. Homosexual "Marriage." Who produced and paid for the distribution of these Voter Guides? Religious leaders? Forget it. This campaign was run by political operatives, armed with political money to defeat John Kerry and other Democratic candidates.

Well, we know how to produce voter guides. We know how to pass out voter guides. I'm no expert on Catholic teachings, but I didn't see anything here about poverty, or health care or the dignity of work. Shame on us when we don't compete at all.

4) We have to travel. If you live in a safe Democratic district like mine, you need to consider every candidate in every winnable district as our candidate - at least adopt one or more of those candidates as your own. Let me tell you about an effort I'm helping build in my district called the Committee of 100. It started in 2004 with a group of activists, many first time activists, who called themselves the Kerry Travelers. Since Illinois was solidly blue, we were able to send over 1200 people to various cities in Wisconsin to go door-to-door for John Kerry, helping to put him over the top. No moping for them after the November election. They created the Committee of 100, 100 people who each agreed to contribute between $100 and $250 to a Congressional candidate and go work in a swing district - mine being blessedly safe. We just met last Sunday. So far they have recruited 200 people and are aiming for 1,000 by election day. Representatives from the campaigns of 4 Democrats running for Congress in Illinois came and made pitches for their candidates. Canvass days were announced for each of them, and people signed up to travel to their districts. Much of the organizing for the Committee of 100 takes place on the internet, but this is no virtual community. You can do it too, and my young political director, Alex Armour, would be happy to help you get started.

5) Finally, we all need to resist, as hard as I know it is at times, griping about the Democrats, one, because it's takes time away from the real work of defeating the Republicans, and two because it's counterproductive, demoralizing the very people we need to be engaged and enthusiastic. I am not necessarily talking about staying away from primaries. I refer to the time spent complaining about this or that performance, how we're not tough enough, we're not articulate enough, we are too wishy-washy. I agree that those critiques are often true. But keep in mind this one thing. Right now we are winning! We are not doing everything wrong.

I think it is time - election fraud is now being treated seriously at CNN, New York Times, and - most importantly - The Colbert Report...

Dare we hope, next, the Democratic National Committee!?!?

2. At a gathering in 2003 I had the opportunity to ask Schakowsky
about questionable voting machines. I mentioned that John Kerry had said that there would be no repeat of Florida in 2000, and I asked what was being done to that end.

She said that she didn't know, but that people were starting to ask her about machine voting as of late. Her expression indicated that it was new to her, and that the concern was somewhat curious.

I accept her apology whole-heartedly, and knew she would come around eventually.

JFK jr.'s article is just what we needed. We'll need 5-6 more folks to come out in widely distributed periodicals the way he did. Keep the naysayers on their toes.

I wish we could hear what President Carter thinks about all this.

Illinois has so many terrific elected Dems who are hard working representatives of the people. I wanna live there again! :-(

3. It is just *wonderful* to hear that Kennedy is getting the respect he is
due for having stuck his neck out. It is amazing that Dems - people who I would naively assume should be the most informed about this issue are learning from Rolling Stone. I am not complaining, just observing and trying to understand how 'it' works.

I, too, would love to hear what President Carter is thinking about this of late. He is so dignified and values working with 'people from across the aisle' -- I think he does not understand who/what the core, fanatical GOP have become - including James Baker.

I will spend my evening -> :D

...and, tomorrow, get back to work educating the people in my locality. I spoke to the local Democracy for America a week ago about election fraud and I attended my local MoveOn meetup last night (Operation Democracy). I take my copies of RFK's article and my Solarbus Election Justice CDs with me *everywhere* I go!

7. I think many people have been/are influenced by the "conspiracy theory"
slams.

Big lies work, and the big liars know how to MAKE them work.

And personally, I still find it hard to believe that the things that have happened in this nation--ACTUALLY HAPPENED! The mind recoils, and some of us are more accustomed to not allowing the mind to retreat in times of crisis, ;-) or dismissing something for its seeming (seeming) "impossibility".

4. "DCCC to Announce Steps Soon to Avoid 'Repeat Performance'"
If this true, and the DCCC takes REAL steps to ensure the integrity of our elections, I will remove them from bvar22's Shit Eaters List.

I STILL believe they shouldn't be involved in local Primary races.
Let the PEOPLE of those districts decide who will reprsent them!

I'm waiting to hear from the DCCC.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

9. Durn, I wished I had a Rep like her...
...would have too, but the machines stole her election.

What a star this Jan is! If only we had 400 more just like her, and a President Gore, or Kerry, we'd be free again!

14. i tell you what, she knows we are behind her. that makes her go.
she gets plenty of feedback from her so very lefty constituency, so she feels very safe, and appreciated for her courage. she did a town hall with john murtha, and after he left, she got up and said, "this keeps him going, he just wants to be heard, to tell the truth."
if you have a good rep, get out there and listen to them. they need that feedback to stay strong.

15. Conversation w wealthy prominent attorney's wife....
Yesterday I had a conversation with a friend's mother, who is the wife of a prominent attorney in Columbus, OH (age upper 60's). She knew I had closed my business over the over the stolen election. I had not seen her since prior to the election. She told me that she believed that the election was stolen in Ohio as well as FL in 2000. She said the situation was frightening. She had read the RFK Jr article and felt strongly that he was correct.

More and more people are coming to terms that not only could it happen but IT DID HAPPEN. As I have said before, it was so blatant to us Ohioans, that we with the doubters, several who have appeared on this forum recently, look at the evidence, don't just dismiss it. It's not just the exit poll deviation, but the mis-allocation of machines, voter purges, conflicting registration numbers, GOP dirty tactics, vote flipping, last minute directives, uncounted votes, etc. It's a big picture that was not carried out secretly but was carried out right under our noses.

16. Thanks for the news from Ohio -
I've believed for a while now that we haven't needed any more analysis to 'prove' the election was stolen - we just needed the facts we all know to be spoken over and over and over - and to be spoken aloud by someone of RFK's stature. It is like throwing pebbles at a window until the sleeping person inside rouses themselves.

Now - we need to quickly turn them from 'belief' to ACTION! :kick:

I am starting to look forward to meeting Greg Palast in Columbus!

I am working today on a docuement I've boldly entitled, "Toward a National Strategy for Local Election Activists" -- just organizing my thoughts and putting in writing what I need to communicate to my local Dems and pols and citizens. I will post it here to get comments from the ER Forum folks and will PM you when it goes up. I don't know how useful it will be, but the feedback may help me get organized to take action here!

:hi:

17. IndyOp, you will love Greg Palast. I saw him last week.
Also, may I suggest something you may want to incorporate into your document?
This is from a bradblog reader. I found it amazing, and took it to democracy for america to see if we can adopt something along these lines..
it is a declaration, the reader expects from any candidate for any office who wants his cash or help, and I might add, vote.:

THE HONEST ELECTION CANDIDATE'S PLEDGE

1. I pledge to work hard to make sure that every
citizen who votes for me has their vote counted for
me.

2. I will not concede any contest I am involved in
until I know that every absentee and provisional
ballot has been counted.

3. I shall make sure that non-partisan exit polling is
conducted.

4. If the final results of counted votes is different
from the exit polling by more than the margin of
error, I will demand and force a recount.

5. I shall exhaust every possible legal recourse to
assure that every vote cast for me by a legal citizen
is counted for me.

6. If asked to "concede" I shall respond: "Only when
every vote cast for me has been counted — to do
anything less would be a violation of the
Constitution."

7. If I am called a "sore loser" or a "waster of
taxpayer time" I will reply that: "Democracy is never
a waste of time and wanting to see Democratic
Government working is never a bad cause."

We should withhold our money and volunteer time from
any candidate that refused to sign this pledge or who
has ever violated any part of it.

19. She was the only major speaker at the conference to speak out on this.
I was one of those in attendance at the Take Back America Conference, who was waiting patiently (ok not so patiently) for someone- ANYONE to bring up this subject in their speeches. Clinton, Kerry, Pelosi, Obama, even Feingold (my personal hero)- not one said a word about the RFK Piece, about election fraud- even about the need for election reform. NOT ONE WORD. That was until Jan Schakowsky opened her address with this very topic- saying that RFK was right and she went on from there. At least one elected official GETS IT. I was fortunate enough to have been able to thank her in person. I'm sure she'd love to hear from others as well- please take a minute to pop over to her website and send her a thank you note. Perhaps even include a link to this thread.

She was terrific, by the way!

21. Good to hear from someone who was there...
I got an email that there was nothing scheduled at the Take Back America conference about election fraud/reform -- so I was especially pleased that Schakowsky spoke out.

Better late (towards the end of the conference) than never!

The contents of the OP went out to Mark Crispin Miller's *large* email list and I got on Thom Hartmann's show today to talk about Schakowsky's leadership as well.

So the news is traveling!

22. She was great. It was a good week overall...
I was there with Clint Curtis, who is running for Congress against Tom Feeney, they guy who asked him to design a program that could manipulate electronic voting machines. You can imagine how disappointed we both were that no one else mentioned the election fraud issue, which for many of us, is the most important issue we face now and one that needs immediate action. Not that there aren't other huge issues - but if we don't deal now with these rigged machines and stolen elections, they will do it again and again and this nightmare will continue. We in Florida might just wind up with Katherine Harris as Senator, which is also pretty horrifying...

Keep spreading the news- we must never stop doing what we can to get the word out to the American public about our elections being rigged. And, any help in getting the word out about Clint Curtis' campaign for Congress (FL 24), would be great as well. We need volunteers and we need donations immediately! www.clintcurtis.com.

Thanks!
