Until recently Texas investment banker and billionaire Tom Hicks sat on the Clear Channel board, controlling 1200 radio stations, three-quarter of a million billboards, and other media entities. In 1998 Tom Hicks bought the Texas Rangers from a group that included George W. Bush; that was the first transaction that made Dubya a millionnaire. While Texas governor, Bush appointed Hicks head of a Texas university fund, UTIMCO, which steered millions in undisclosed investments to Bush cronies and Hicks cronies. One of Tom Hicks' venture capital groups came up with $32 million to help fund Hart InterCivic which makes voting machines that counts votes in Houston, Austin, and in a number of states (CA).
