Dan Tokaji's Equal Vote Blog: The Latest Version of the Holt Bill
Tuesday, February 6

The Latest Version of the Holt Bill
Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) has introduced another version of his bill (H.R. 811) to require that all voting systems generate a "voter-verified" paper ballot. It would authorize $300 million for fisacal year 2007 to meet the new requirements. I've commented on the problems with this sort of requirement numerous times in the past, including here and here, and little would be gained by again replaying that debate. Suffice it to say that, whatever problems exist with electronic voting, it remains doubtful at best that attaching a printer will provide a workable and effective solution.....

1. This--the most important issue in American history--will likely get lost in..
...the stories on the House debate on the war, the Libby trial, and the Bush/Cheney manufacture of a second war in the Middle East.

Why do we have to debate a war that 74% of the American people oppose and want ended?

Why aren't Bush-Cheney being impeached this very moment, for outing a covert CIA agent and the entire US/CIA WMD worldwide counter-proliferation network?

How is it possible that Bush-Cheney are manufacturing a second war, when 74% of the American people oppose the first one, and a whopping 84% oppose any US participation in a widened Mideast war (summer '06)?

The answer: Electronic voting--which was fast-tracked across the country during the 2002-2004 period, with $3.9 billion in boondoggle funding--is not only extremely insecure and insider riggable, its TRADE SECRET programming code is owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite electronic voting corporations--Diebold/ES&S. HR 811 tries to "patch" this system up by giving more millions to these Bushite corporations, to make them add printers and a completely inadequate 2% audit. I'd say our Congress critters are hostage to Diebold/ES&S.

The debate in the House (on a non-binding resolution), the Libby trial (coverup of treason), and any efforts of the American people to stop a war on Iran are useless, in terms of real change, until we restore our right to vote, and get a truly representative Congress (75% against Bush/Cheney's wars), and a president who represents the interests of the American people.

Election reform is the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE. Without it, we don't have a democracy.

----------------------------

Throw Diebold/ES&S and all election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

"Without it, we don't have a democracy.

Absolutely. This is the sine qua nonof democracy.

The side shows about Iraq, and all else, is to keep us from concentraying on the fact that the Dieboldization of American is almost a fait accomplí.

Citizens, load your brains and prepare to think! What are we to do about this???
