Time to call in LHS-New Op Scans not working in CT
On the Ground
02.05.08 -- 9:35AMBy Josh Marshall
From TPM Reader EC at 9:25 AM ...

The new optical scanners in my voting precinct (in West Hartford, CT) were not working this morning either. We were instructed to leave our ballots and told that they would be scanned later. I miss the old lever machines! The turnout looked substantial, however, at 7:20 a.m.

1. Oh jeez
I haven't voted yet in CT. I won't vote until I have to go into work later on in the afternoon. I will let you know how it goes.

2. LHS Oversees Diebold voting in Connecticut:
Computer scientists we spoke with in Connecticut (where LHS also oversees Diebold voting), such as Professor Michael Fischer of Yale University's Computer Science Department and Professor Alex Shvartsman of the University of Connecticut's Voting Research Team, recommend tight written legal protections to govern the way voting machine failures are handled. Connecticut officials continue to work on problems that have arisen since they purchased the Diebold AccuVote Optical Scan machines in 2006.

4. They don't play well with rain....
It rained last time and is raining again today. If the ballots get wet at all, they don't work properly, from what I've heard. Oy. Gimme back my ka-CHUNK lever machine, tyvm.
