Toledo Blade: Winner of Lucas Co OH Seat Lives in Michigan

Article published April 3, 2008

Winner of GOP seat lives in Michigan
Lucas County panel pick did not OK campaign

By TOM TROY
BLADE POLITICS WRITER

A man who was elected to the Lucas County Republican Party's central committee from North Toledo likely will have his election duly certified today by the Lucas County Board of Elections - even though he lives in Michigan.

James Arthur, 36, acknowledged in a sworn statement obtained by GOP activist Jon Stainbrook and dated Tuesday that he lives in Erie, Mich., and has since before the election.

Mr. Arthur had the help of the Lucas County Republican Party in winning one of 249 seats on the party's central committee in the March 4 primary election. He defeated Erin Thacker, who had been recruited by Mr. Stainbrook for the Precinct 1N seat.

Mr. Stainbrook and the party leadership are fighting over every seat on the central committee because of Mr. Stainbrook's effort to gain control of the local party. The central committee is set to meet as early as next week to elect a chairman.
