King County (WA) holds key as tally nears end
November 24, 2004

It all comes down to King County.

The closest gubernatorial race in state history will be decided ? at least for a while ? at 3 p.m. today when the state's largest county completes its recount of nearly 1 million ballots.

But yet another recount appears likely.

Yesterday, after all but two of the state's 39 counties had recounted their ballots and reported results, Republican Dino Rossi's lead over Democratic Attorney General Christine Gregoire stood at 321 votes.

Rossi, a former state senator from Sammamish, has gained 60 votes since the statewide recount was ordered last week.

{snip}

Whatever happens, however, it appears another statewide or partial recount ? this time by hand ? is inevitable.

The state Democratic Party ? still reeling from the outcome of what was expected to be an easy victory for Gregoire on Nov. 2 ? yesterday sent out a news release listing ballot-counting discrepancies, computer glitches and other problems that arose during the current recount. The party said a hand recount appears to be the "only way" to ensure an accurate count

So far almost every county has had to adjust their original results. All of these electronic voting systems were supposed to be free from this sort of problem. What is so hard about adding 1 + 1 + 1? Funny, my bank and the IRS never have problems counting my money?

1. Kings Co. is pretty democratic isn't it?
being Seattle and all. Hopefully she will gain there. I'm not surprised it was close after all it has been one democratic governor after another and Gary Locke was not all that popular.

2. King Co. is very Democratic.
Unfortunately, Chris Gregoire is perceived by some as a DINO.

Gov. Locke was wildly popular in his first term but squandered his "political capital" in his second term by his policies/actions regarding teachers and Boeing, etc. That didn't help Gregoire.

The billionaires and corporations rule Washington State regardless of who is elected. Paul Allen got the uglist building in the world (EMP) put right smack dab in the middle of the Seattle Center--his vanity matters more than feeding hungry Washington children. People think of Seattle as liberal but don't understand that culturally liberal doesn't translate to socially and economically progressive.
