Now reading "The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass"

Next on my 'must read' list. Thought it appropriate for February.

I read just the first two chapters at lunch and I'm already struck by the power of the narrative. Every cracker with a rebel flag on his truck should be made to read it, like this if necessary:

I read that in college and remember really liking it. Some people manage to live extraordinary lives.

2. Just finished it myself
Before Christmas. I listened to the book on CD. Incredibly powerful stuff. I wanted to take his comments on how slaves had to respond positively whenever someone asked them about how massa was treating them and shove them under the noses of ever person I've ever heard say: "Some slaves were really happy to be with their masters. They said so themselves." :puke:
