So who loved the Watchmen soundtrack?
I heard from a few people that said the soundtrack ruined the movie for them. I have no idea how someone comes to that conclusion. I LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK! The Dylan opening made me cry!

Oh and 99 LUFT BALOONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. I don't really get the hate of the soundtrack.
I thought it worked great.

Dylan was the high point for sure.

I thought it was terrible. You couldn't have come up with more overused cliches if you were trying to do a parody.

Hallelujah? Sounds Of Silence? Great songs, but how many times have they been used as signifiers in films? I just don't feel that they put any real effort into choosing the music, they just went with the first thought on every occasion.

4. Well, what songs should they have chosen? Remember, the year is supposed to be 1985. Therefore, no
songs that came out after 1985 can be used.

8. and that's the problem
"Sounds of Silence" came out in the late 60s, as did the Hendrix version of "All Along the Watchtower". As someone who lived through those times, the music has strong temporal connections, and was just wrong for those parts of the film. If I were scoring it, I'd use more post-punk: The Clash, esp. "Straight to Hell", maybe Strummer's "Love Kills". Michael Jackson's "Beat It". I draw the line at Duran Duran, though.

Of course, since Watchmen is set in an alternate universe during Nixon's 5th term maybe we can pretend all the bad 70s and 80s music didn't exist :)

But 99 Luftballoons stays. So does the version of Desolation Row played over the end credits, anachronism be damned.

6. I kind of agree...

The "Sounds of Silence" will always remind me of the Graduate and Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" of Apocalypse Now, another movie can't reclaim those tracks.

Tarantino had the right idea to choose tracks which weren't so well known but which became iconic after being in his movies.

ON edit: I wonder if they were the placeholder songs used in the rough edit and then were just left in there.

That Whole movie ROCKED!!!!! I'm not going to play spoiler here but I gotta tell you this. LOL>
Two older women came in, looked to be in their 60s and sat Down at the end of our seating row.
The first time Doctor Manhattan strolls across the scene fully and frontal nude one of the women yelped Hello!!!! and precedes to spill her large soda all over the place!!HAHAHAHA!!!!

7. They were all great tunes
but there were a couple of places the director should have picked tracks that weren't associated with other movies.

9. I loved it.
I think they used the "cliched" on purpose, to highlight how those songs would have entered popular vernacular even in the alternative universe of "Watchmen".
