My only surprise is how far I've moved away from the religion of my youth, Roman Catholic. It now ranks tied for last at 8%. Live and learn!

65. me too - catholic girls school. but I never, ever
think about religion at all now. The last teaching I remember that I thought made sense was univeralism - No one, not you, nor I, no one, knows what will happen after one dies. Therefore, the only thing you can do is learn how to lead a better, happier, more peaceful life here on earth.

30. I don't think so...
I went to their meetings a few times, and they seemed entirely rational, not cult-like at all which is how I view the moonies. However I'm not very knowledgeable about either.

37. Google is my friend ...
No it's not the Moonies .... whew.

actually, it turns out that (on occasion) my kids attend a Unitarian Universalists church (a really good thing)

Reading about the UU ... it turns out that it is very reflective of my personal belief system.

I just had a moment of freaking out ... believing that somehow my answers would align me with a right wing cultish belief system

61. No problem. the UU is a small church. The right sees them as
a bunch of Secular Humanist.

Q. Why are UU churches closed for three months during the summer?

A. Because Unitarian Universalists are the only people God trusts to be out of his sight for three months.

60. No, no, no! Absolutely not!
My mother is very active in her Unitarian Church, and she is ABSOLUTELY not a Moonie. I think there's some confusion over names. Moonies are the Unification Church, not "Universalist".

...don't give atheists the ability to answer honestly "there is currently no evidence to support the existence of gods", which is different from saying "there are no gods".

This is what I got. I'm going to have to think about it for a while, but actually, it might be pretty accurate. (I was raised in the Episcopal Church, and when I go now, it's to a Presbyterian Church.)

53. I was very surprised to see...
...Orthodox Quaker come up number 1 at 100%, and Liberal Quaker number 2 at 98%. Not surprised to see Unitarian, Hinduism, and Mahayana Buddhism filling out the top 5, with Taoism and Theravada Buddhism not far behind. Quaker? Me? I'll have to investigate!

66. This is what belief-net thinks my rankings are:
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 12:56 AM by struggle4progress
1. Orthodox Quaker (100%)
2. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (96%)
3. Liberal Quakers (95%)
4. Unitarian Universalism (93%)
5. Neo-Pagan (91%)
6. Secular Humanism (85%)
7. New Age (83%)
8. Theravada Buddhism (77%)
9. Mahayana Buddhism (77%)
10. Baha'i Faith (70%)
11. Reform Judaism (70%)
12. Jainism (68%)
13. Taoism (64%)
14. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (62%)
15. Scientology (62%)

18. New Thought (58%)
19. Sikhism (58%)
20. Nontheist (54%)
21. Hinduism (49%)

23. Roman Catholic (49%)
24. Islam (47%)
25. Orthodox Judaism (47%)
26. Mormons (46%)
27. Jehovah's Witness (29%)

I would eliminate many entries from this list as incompatible with my views:

1. Orthodox Quaker (100%)
2. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (96%)
3. Liberal Quakers (95%)
4. Unitarian Universalism (93%)
6. Secular Humanism (85%)
8. Theravada Buddhism (77%)
9. Mahayana Buddhism (77%)
10. Baha'i Faith (70%)
11. Reform Judaism (70%)
13. Taoism (64%)
22. Eastern Orthodox (49%)
23. Roman Catholic (49%)
24. Islam (47%)
25. Orthodox Judaism (47%)

And I wouldn't order the list the same way: I would group it according to particular aspects I like about various spiritual traditions
