IMO: Dreams are the root of belief in soul, spirituality and religion.
The real root of dreams is desire, fear, hormones, envy, genetics and other things. If you live so as to satisfy or control the forgoing; your dreams will be more pleasant. If you buy into dogmas that prevent you from satisfying or dealing with these animal desires I believe your dreams will get weirder and weirder. So then you might seek dream protection, very likely in church. I doubt if it will help much.

Asking someone who doesn't have a problem with dreams to be religious or spiritual is like telling someone who does not have a hearing problem to wear a hearing aid.

6. I had in mind night time, while sleeping, type dreams, but day dreams are similar.

2. Yes. In short, they are fabricating their "truths" , a very dangerous
practice.

For example: the zoo management in San Diego fabricated the truth about how high a young tiger could jump. "Let see, about 12.5 feet ought to do it". Now, a person is dead because of their failure to study the tiger's capabilities more closely.

3. My dreams will be more pleasant...
if I control emotional responses? I don't think so. That repression stuff is deadly.

5. You used the word control different than I had in mind. Although
some control over emotional outbursts is advisable for getting along in the world and peace.

8. I believe that is something...
one learns from their environment..how to deal with emotions. Drinking and drugging was the fave in my surroundings. Worked well for me for a long time. The structure of the society I was born into did not 'do' emotions.

9. I'm 82 and never had a drug problem, but alcohol, another drug, caused me a lot of problems.
In the last couple of years it triggered atrial fibrillation to the point I've about given it up. I liked to drink socially and tended to have friends who drank too much. I'm lucky in that I don't crave it, but I miss the bull shit we laughed about.

4. Trifecta
"Asking someone who doesn't have a problem with dreams to be religious or spiritual is like telling someone who does not have a hearing problem to wear a hearing aid."

That comes across as arrogant, idiotic, and ignorant all at once.
