Lord's Prayer review ordered
http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/303245

In a bid to separate church and state – or, in this case, province – Premier Dalton McGuinty wants to end the practice of reciting the Lord's Prayer in the Ontario Legislature.
McGuinty surprised observers at Queen's Park this morning by appealing for an all-party committee to replace the prayer.

"I believe it is time for Ontario's Legislature to better reflect Ontario's reality and celebrate our diversity," the premier wrote to the leaders of the Progressive Conservatives and New Democrats

Good for McGuinty. I hope they eliminate it completely, and not just re-word it to make it non-denominational. There's no reason for a government body to have any kind of official prayer as part of their day.

1. here's a better translation
Lord’s Prayer*

"Oh heavenly source of all radiance

Soften the ground of our being and carve out a space within us where your Presence can abide.

Fill us with your creativity so that we may be empowered to bear the fruit of your mission.

Let each of our actions bear fruit in accordance with our desire.

Endow us with the wisdom to produce and share what each being needs to grow and flourish.

Untie the tangled threads of destiny that bind us as we release others from the entanglement of past mistakes.

Protect us from being seduced by that which would divert us from our true purpose, but illuminate the redemptive opportunities of each passing moment.

For you are the ground and the fruitful vision, the creative power and fulfillment, as all is gathered and made whole once again."

*Translated directly from Aramaic to English instead of the traditional translation from Aramaic to Greek to Latin to English

Notice how there is no guilt or "evil" suggested at all.

It only makes sense that something that goes through four translations can get a bit distorted.

Here's something funny and a couple more direct translations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIBfNsPDw1I&feature=related

I heard on this show,

http://www.kpfa.org/archives/index.php?arch=24113

an interesting interpretation for the rather oblique King James' version of "Love thine enemies." as well as some other fun facts to know and tell.

Since Arabic languages are far more multi leveled than the Greek, Latin, and English ones, for decades I've been intrigued by the scholars who are fluent in Hebrew and Aramaic who translate the verses directly into English.

The etymology they present is really quite fascinating.

The Aramaic root of the word "enemies" is a "tangled knot."

The Aramaic root of the word "evil" means "unripe."

That suggests something that requires more sunlight (aka consciousness), nourishment, water (aka emotional support), and time (patience), though I've heard no one else elucidate it as such, but most metaphysicians don't live on farms. That perspective sure beats all the tiresomely unenlightened dualistic shadow projection that is bandied about so much these days.

"Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth" translated directly becomes "Blessed are those who soften their hearts (emotional rigidity) because they are open to the full powers of nature."

One I had not heard until moments ago was translated by Neal Douglas-Klotz.

The host described this interpretation as "a vast instruction manual of great mystery."

"Love thine enemies" = "Love your enemies. From a hidden place, unite with your enemies from the inside. Fill the inner void. That makes them swell outwardly and fall out of rhythm, instead of progressing step by step. They stop and start harshly out of time. Bring yourself back into rhythm within. Find the moment that meets with theirs', like two lovers creating life from the dust. Do this work in secret. This kind of love creates. It does not emote."

This approach is reinforced here as well.

9. That's hilarious!
Note: This website was infused with energy to help clean you of negative programs and beliefs as you view it. As you sit there looking at this site, you might notice a quieting and relaxing taking place. Just relax, breath slowly, and let go. Enjoy the peace.

That reminds me of the old time radio preachers who asked that you put your hands on the radio for healing energy. Technology has come a long way, but gullibility is still the same.

10. I wonder where the energy resides?
I administer webservers for numerous customers, so this might be important for me to know, in case a customer asks for one of these energy-infused websites. Is it tied to the particular server? If so, how do I prevent it leaking out to other sites which may share that server? For example, both www.zerolimits.info and www.pilldiscounts.com are on the same IP address (64.202.189.170), so would some of this energy be wasted on people looking for cheap Viagra? If I load-balance a busy site across multiple physical servers, do each of the servers need to be infused? How often does the energy need to be topped up (presumably this depends on traffic levels)? How does it affect bandwidth used, and do I need special routers?

11. It's just a simple java script.
Or maybe a flash player plug in. My pop up blocker shut it down instantly and my mal ware removal tool deleted it from my history folder.

It pays to keep your computer safe from energy surges!

15. It doesn't matter where it resides...
but you can probably charge extra for energy-infused site hosting.

I say, go for it :)

19. When I see stuff like that I wonder
Just how far detached from reality you are. Can you drive a car? Balance a check book? Hold down a job? Can you tell the difference between fiction and non-fiction? When you watch TV do you understand that it is not real? Is there any story so bizarre that you won't believe it?

20. I have driven across country 5 times.
I have no debt. I'm self employed. I can delineate between fact and fiction quite easily. I rarely watch TV. I'm not without scrutiny.

None of this is any of your beeswax.

Why the heck are you so hostile anyhow?

5. I like that version of the Lord's prayer.
Do you know how literal of a translation it is? I have no idea how accurately Aramaic can be translated to English. This has a much different feel than the traditional translation.

6. What's the source for the Aramaic?
Given that the oldest gospels containing it are all in Greek, what alternative source are you using?

7. I studied with a person who was fluent in Hebrew and Aramaic
years ago and he used to translate passages from the first five books of the Bible saying, "Here it is for a Greek audience. . ." Here is is for a Roman audience. . ." "Here it is for a Pagan audience. . ." "and here is the way I see it. . ." The variations in tone were enormous.

His interpretations were actually inclusive of the best of divine comedy and divine tragedy. It was like Mel Brooks does the Bible I swear.

But that version of the Lord's Prayer didn't come from him. It was in a e-mail I received long ago with no attribution as to the translator.

Though the gospels were written in Greek presumably others penned stuff in Aramaic and Hebrew closer to the time of his life.

Here is one good source for direct translations. http://www.abwoon.com/ He has an alternative interpretation on that site as well but I like the one I posted better. Scroll down here if you want to see it. http://www.abwoon.com/LordsPrayerinAramaic.html

12. Still looks like someone has translated it *into* Aramaic
from the known Greek, and then translated directly from the Aramaic into English. If this Wikipedia page is right, it's a minority view among scholars that the Peshitta was the original gospels.

4. It already is non-denominational.
It's a prayer written by a Jew, for Jews, and adopted by that Jew's followers. It's also very much in step with Islam's teachings ("Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven" is about as Islamic as it can come).

It's only because it's taken from the teachings of Christ that some see it as Christian.
