Rev. Wright is downright crazy....
He believes that there is a sky god who knows everything.

He also believes this sky daddy sent his only son to die on the cross for our sins.

And....He believes that two of every animal went on a boat ride, and all was well.

Thats some crazy shit.

3. Indeed. It's one thing to talk about Rev. Wright's sermons and Obama's membership in his church
and quite another to use him to take a swipe at all Christians.

The OP essentially calls all Christians crazy.

I'd say that might offend some folks.

34. you are talking about people that worship a being
that if you look at his biography (the bible) shows him to be the worst possible type of villain. I think that qualifies as damn crazy.

13. The excuse you made:
"God has deliberately placed the 'veil' over the eyes of some."

Every time something weird happens his followers make up some extended myth to cover his ass. It's funny to those of us who don't believe, but it is hilarious taken in the larger context of all the disasters happening in the world. god definitely need an excuse for the way he has handled his creation.

If this is the best your god can do, you need a better god.

14. You've got it wrong,
that is not an excuse. There are none so blind as they who will not see.

I think God handled His creation a whole lot better than we have.

You should have gone with the "more things in heaven and Earth" quote.

It is the number one trite saying on the internet.

And it is just as lame.

24. I was saving that just for you!
Actually I would have used it on anyone with such antiquated notions, but you got here first.

Aren't you ever amazed by the way god's followers always come up with some new story to explain all the nasty things god does to his followers? He always seems to be punishing gays, or punishing Sodomites, or testing someone's faith. But really he is just one mean son of a bitch. And making excuses for him is much like a battered wife saying that he only hits me because he loves me.

Sometimes it is pathetic, but generally it is just funny. :)

to explain man's relationship with god.

Thanks for the set up. I'll see to it that you get credited with an assist.

it, can you?

Sorry but you can't provoke me, I am comfortable in my own skin, after all I have had many many years to get used to it.

Anyway I'm just a sweet little old lady, so go ahead, wear yourself out.

Via con Dios.

I'm not a believer in predestination. I exercise free will because I don't fear the wrath of an abusive father figure.

And you should know that guilt trips only work on children. But it is amusing that you try the same tactics on me that the sky daddy uses on you.

Strike two.

19. Of course, that is exactly what happened. God put a veil over his eyes.
They couldn't honestly think someone with different beliefs is strange, could they?

Oh no. It's impossible for someone to even physically type those words unless God veils their eyes.

Must you put God in everything? It really irks me when people use faith rather than asking flipping questions.

In other words: If you want to know someones motive, ask them, don't tell them.

21. Ah, my bad. You are right, the OP brought God into this thread.
And by proceeding to tell people what they think and why, rather than asking them, you made it all better.

Or to rephrase my earlier post "why claim that something 'did' something to the poster? Why aren't you trying to find out why they believe what they do? Is there something wrong with asking them?"

Of course, an acceptable answer to this is "because they were way to rude for me to be interested in talking to them", but I wanted to find out why you had chosen not to ask. (Also, if that was the case, why say that god put a veil on his eyes?)

22. The OP made it
quite clear what he thinks (crazy shit)
You don't find that to be quite rude?
I don't think anything I could say would alter his opinion.

I must add I was quite suprised to see Christian bashing on a religious forum.

23. Hey! It's been a while since someone repeated what I said and told me it opposed what I said.
How about that.

I said: I wonder why you said some entity did something to the poster.
I said: I could understand not wanting to talk to someone that rude, but then why make claims about what motivated them?

You said: I think what he said was rude!

Odd. Very.

For the record, while I made my views on this post quite clear(below, in my first post on this thread), don't expect deference to your religion here. If you have an issue with that, take it up with the christians who ridicule scientology - the claims of christianity sound just as odd to many here.

That said, while I don't think you are right, I don't think belief in god in such a way per se is harmful, so I will tell off those who post like the OP. But neither will I show deference to any random pov, religion or group.

(The reason that mini-rant was included is because of the many times christian-bashing has been accused over not showing deference; I in no way think that you think such odd things)

And if you're going to post on DU, you're damn right you need to worry about offending folks, lest you wanna get locked.

9. And? Who cares?
Maybe if you said "Rev. Wright believes that prayer cures AIDS" I would have a problem. But not for choice of religion.

If you said "Rev. Wright believes that faith is, in every part of our lives, superior to reason" I would have a problem.

Get back to me with some beliefs that harm society.

33. You know what really pisses me off about this OP?
This guy Rev. Wright IS crazy but not because of religious beliefs per se. He's said things like we deserved 9/11 because of our "terrorist policies". And that the CIA created AIDS to kill off African Americans. As well as spread drug use among African Americans. Along with some very bigoted statements about caucasians.
Its not the religion per se that's the problem here...Its the conspiracy, hateful racist rants that are.
FYI, This guy was until recently Obama's "spiritual advisor" (whatever the hell THAT is).
Also, I actually voted for Obama in my state primary recently so as an atheist/biologist my head wants to explode right about now...:banghead:

BTW...Love your work in this thread, though.....:)
