Chris Hedges is performing an admirable service: by creating such a clever satire of Professor Dawkins' The God Delusion, he's trying to help atheists better understand the hurt feelings of "moderate theists" over the biting critiques religion has received. This understanding will lead to clearer atheist-moderate interaction, and...what's that you say? He's serious?

Well, in that case, this horrible book has stolen two hours of my life that I'll never get back. It's nothing but page after page of bald assertion. Quotes demonstrating the point at hand are rare, quotes that aren't from Harris and Hitchens are even rarer, and rarest of all are non-Harris/Hitchens quotes that actually say what Hedges wants them to say. That's why I started to think it was a satire; Hedges commits every single miscue and error that the critics of "the New Atheists" claim Dawkins and Co. commit.

I really liked "War is a Force that Gives us Meaning" and "American Fascists." Guess third time wasn't the charm for Mr. Hedges.

1. Color me shocked.
Judging from the interview I read the other day, I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to go out and get this. Thanks for the review :hi:

3. Oh, c'mon, you know you are dying to read a book
where practically every sentence begins "The atheists think this or believe that."

2. Listened to him on Hartmann and was less than impressed.
I think I get what he was trying to get across, but he really seemed to be a kind of lazy thinker.
