3. You joke, but I have had that question from kids I teach twice this
year, and had to explain that yes, catholics are christians...

4. Yeah...of course they are. But the bonehead fundamentalcases
have been insisting that the Roman Catholic Church is the Antichrist for many decades. The Wisconsin Synod of the Lutheran Church even has that in its official doctrine. Martin Luther wasn't that fond of the "Papists," either.

It's amazing what some religious doctrines do to common sense.

11. That would be more apt, I think,
in a case in which a long-held belief, founded in nothing but superstition, ended up being proved correct under certain circumstances through nothing but sheer chance, or preferably through the fact that such things must happen sometimes anyway. A closer clock-related statement here would be "You can improve a gear in a completely broken clock, but it'll still most likely not going to be useful for telling the time."

I confess that isn't as punchy.
