'Second-class citizens': Women and religion.
<snip>

It is a truth so familiar as to have become cliché: Women are the driving force behind organized religion. They fill the pews, they bring their children into the fold. The Pew data help make sense of these facts. But the same data highlight the cruel irony that in far too many religious contexts in this country, women remain second-class citizens.

2. It's the Sarah Palin syndrome. Nietzsche called it "slave morality"
"Bless your heart, your reward is in heaven. Now shut up and sit down. Don't worry, we treat you like shit, but God will be real nice to you after you're dead."

3. "Women are the driving force behind organized religion." What?
That sounds like a christian-centric view of things.

I not so sure that the other "organized religions" have the same situation.

5. I certainly don't know for sure
But I'd guess that there are similar circumstances in others - women doing the bulk of the work (preparing things for worship, feeding people, cleaning, etc. not to mention religious education...)

4. I could never belong to a religion that put females as less then, or subserviant to males.

6. At what point
does any organized religion become more about protecting the practice than practicing the faith?

7. Buddhism and Hinduism make far more room for females than Abrahamic religions.
Hinduism has female deities that are pretty much equal to men.

Buddha said that women could be enlightened just as well as men.

Also if you want to get into venerated people you have the Taras (Red, White, Green) and Kwan Yin.

Much different from the "god is male and don't you forget it--we will tolerate no female power" in Abrahamic religions.

I'm sick of male gods (since when does a deity need a penis?) and I'm sick of Jeebus.
