This is one BIG honking statue
Spring Temple Buddha of Henan, China. Completed in 2002, by far the world's tallest statue - 420 ft. Look at that thing!:

From this Wikipedia list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statues_by_height

it appears Buddhists LOVE their big ass statues. Christianity doesn't put in an appearance until Mary of Trujillo, Venezuela - 153 ft

And poor old Jesus of Rio is waaay down the list - 125 ft

I think I like this guy the best:

It's the Maitreya Buddha of Hsinchu County, Taiwan - 236 ft. He reminds me of Budai/Hotei, the Laughing Buddha.

8. Could be the server doesn't allow hotlinking
If you intially saw it embedded in a page, that might be the reason you're seeing it and I'm not.

6. MC 900ft Jesus

I don't know if he's actually 900ft but I saw him once and he's one big ass Jesus.

He lives at the "Passion Play" in Excelsior Springs, Arkansas.
One of the trippiest places I have ever been too.
And I mean that in a good way.
Beautiful little town.

Google it and read thy ass all about it!

19. If the Buddha is 450 feet, that Jesus is nowhere near 900.
Unless you *believe* that it's 900 feet. Praise Jesus!

7. Notice Buddha always looks serene and/or happy?
Now look at the Christian statues.

Oh, the guy in Rio isn't that bad, but generally speaking, look at them.

Not a happy person in the bunch.

Still, that godawful big Buddha makes me a little queasy. Buddha himself would have thought of better uses for the resources.

12. I don't think I've ever seen a reclining Christ
Seen plenty of the Buddha in repose. Equanimity and ease doesn't seem real popular in Jesus iconography.

15. the spring temple HUGE buddha reminds me of
the images of cityscapes where photographers use tilt/shift lenses to make the people look like itty-bitty plastic play-toys.

except i think the statue is so big that the people actually are that small in comparison.

WOW!

20. I've seen #3 (the Japanese one) from a distance
You can see it from the taller buildings in the university city of Tsukuba. "Honking huge" is a good way to describe it.
