Question about a religious holiday on Wednesday, April 15th, 2009.
Hi all,

When I first met my student this year, her mom said they went to a "weird church." Her words, certainly not mine. Since I don't speak with my student's families about my personal politics or beliefs, she probably doesn't know I don't care what religion they practice in terms of making a personal judgement.

She does call it "church," but that might be just what she says to keep people from being nosey.

I have a student who has a religious holiday on Wednesday, April 15th. (And she mentioned this to me long before the "tea baggers" were topical.)

I have no intention of questioning the family as if I don't believe them. But I'm just curious, what religion has a holiday this upcoming Wednesday.

Thanks!

:hi:

Jewish, or perhaps one of the Messianic Jewish Christian sects. Since someone said something about a "weird church," it's probably the latter. The Messianic Jewish sects are pretty bizarre at times.

4. The Messianic Jewish Christian sect may be it. I did mention Chaukanah, and she didn't say no.
I never get a clear answer, so I am hesitant to directly ask.

Thanks for the response. :hi:

10. "...Chaukanah, and she didn't say no" I meant in December.
Thanks to TexasProgresive for catching my error in expressing myself. (I did look kinda dumb... ) :hi:

3. Passover could be a likely candidate.
If she took a day off for observance last week, then it would fit.

8. The last day of Passover and
This coming Sunday is Orthodox Easter so maybe the Orthodox celebrate something on Wednesday. In the Roman Church the big days before Easter are Holy (Maundy) Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil) and Easter Sunday. Hindu, Islam, Wicca, and Buddhism seem to not be celebrating somthing special on that day. It is certainly not Chaukanah which occurs in December.

9. I'm thinking they are likely in one of the Messianic Jewish Christian sects
And I didn't state myself correctly. I didn't think it was Chanakaha now, but I did mention it in December and they didn't say no.

11. We Orthodox are often called weird.
Tomorrow is Holy Wednesday of our Holy Week, and many churches have their healing service in the afternoon or morning (ours is in the evening). It's a major service and one of the most populated during Holy Week. Our Easter is this Sunday.

15. Orthodox.
:)

I'm used to having to explain to the kids' school about our different calendar and such, and I've often been asked if I go to "that weird church", so that's why I figured his student was Orthodox.
