What would be a good symbol for reason?
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 04:59 PM by howard112211
I am wondering. Religions have their symbols that everyone recognizes. If people see a cross, or a star of david, or a crescent, or a ying yang, or a pentagram, they immediately recognize them. Some may not immediately know what religion to associate them with, but most people will recognize them as religious symbols. What kind of symbol could represent reason I wonder? I'm thinking, it would have to be something that is simple but profound. Easy to reproduce, yet deep in a historical or philosophical context. Something like "flame of prometheus" for instance, but maybe not quite that.

3. Lightbulb is a good symbol for that.
Or a candle, light in the dark type thought.

I like the spelling of that word :D

Very profound. An object that has been around for ages and is recognized in most parts of the world.

26. but pi is wrong
Not 'wrong' in the sense of being factually incorrect; the number π is perfectly well-defined, and it has all the properties normally ascribed to it by mathematicians. When we say that “π is wrong”, we mean that π is a confusing and unnatural choice for the circle constant.

17. There's someone on YouTube who calls himself a pearlist.
PEARL standing for: "Physical Evidence And Reasoned Logic."

You could try something along those lines.

23. The "G" doesn't mean what you think it does.
I was surprised when I learned that. The fraternity flourished during the Enlightenment. There's a reason for that, reason.

24. Bet it does!
I know what *you* mean but I also know how it will be interpreted
by a lot of other people so was just suggesting the S&C without a
letter to avoid the almost inevitable response from some people.
