Cardinal O'Brien: Government can't rewrite nature and allow gays to wed
Cardinal Keith O'Brien, in a strongly worded homily delivered at a mass for politicians in Edinburgh last night, claimed that allowing gay people to wed through a civil or religious ceremonies would be a "direct attack" on the institution of marriage.

...

But Green MSP Mr Harvie attacked the Catholic Church's stance on gay rights and highlighted a Scottish Social Attitudes survey which revealed 60 per cent believe same-sex couples should have the right to marry.

...

"Just as non-Catholics respect Catholic marriages, so it's time for the Cardinal to start respecting the right of every adult to love who they please.

"There are many faith groups who want to conduct same-sex marriages for their members, and the Catholic Church seems determined to try and suppress their freedom to do so."

1. The Cardinal needs a ladder
so he can climb up on it and kiss my ass.

He is afraid of a "direct attack" on the church's control of the institution of marraige.

Fuck him.

3. I don't see how it's a 'direct attack' on the institution of marriage
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 02:52 PM by LeftishBrit
No one's marriage is going to collapse because a gay couple moves in next door.

As regards 'nature', some people are gay *because* it's their nature. And there are homosexual pairings in many animal species as well as humans - so it is hardly 'unnatural'.

5. Does the Cardinal realize that "marriage" as an institution does not
exist in nature, and also that homosexuality does exist in nature. It is not limited to the human race. So then? Which is not natural?

9. They are regurgitating St. Thomas Aquinas' fallicious ethical philosophy.
It's the same crap they use to reject birth control.

7. Homosexuality exists throughout nature
It's been observed in thousands of animal species including human beings. Homophobia and religion, on the other hand, have been observed only in humans. Maybe the Cardinal should stop babbling about "rewriting nature", something he's clearly out of his league on, and return to preaching dogma.

11. Dear Cardinal O'Brien
Not everyone believes in your god.

Not everyone who believes in your god believes in the book of Leviticus.

There are many dos and donts in the bible..... do you really want to insist we legislate all of them?

As for your bigotry and hate: I suggest burning something else in your incense burner.... maybe then you can let go of your fear.

12. I officiated at the wedding of two women last Saturday, and never gave the RC church
a moment's thought in the whole process. I guess that's what you call a stealth attack.
