Celebrate the National Day of Reason - Thursday May 4th, 2006
Why a "National Day of Reason?"

Many who value the separation of religion and government have sought an appropriate response to the federally-supported National Day of Prayer, an annual abuse of the constitution. Nontheistic Americans (including freethinkers, humanists, atheists, agnostics, and deists), along with many traditionally religious allies, view such government-sanctioned sectarianism as unduly exclusionary.

A consortium of leaders from within the community of reason endorsed the idea of a National Day of Reason. This observance is held in parallel with the National Day of Prayer, on the first Thursday in May (5 May 2005). The goal of this effort is to celebrate reason - a concept all Americans can support - and to raise public awareness about the persistent threat to religious liberty posed by government intrusion into the private sphere of worship.

To facilitate the commemoration of the National Day of Reason by individuals and organizations throughout the U.S., the American Humanist Association and the Washington Area Secular Humanists have joined in launching this National Day of Reason web site. This web site is designed to serve as the focal point for an effort to recognize the National Day of Reason, and as a platform to offer a criticism of the federally-sponsored National Day of Prayer. We hope that it will be a resource to the community of reason, the press, and the general public.

***************

There is great potential this year to give voice to our shared concerns about the serious threats to the wall separating religion and government. We hope that you will visit our site again, and we look forward to hearing about your plans to observe the National Day of Reason.

Now, more than ever, America needs a Day of Reason!

10. I'm sure God had a perfectly good reason for doing that.
You know the rules only apply to mortals.

7. Great idea, but reason is dead
June, 6, 2006 the supreme court declared that reason is dead, intelligent design should be taught in school, religion can be taught in public school, prayer is good, abortion is bad, and GWChimp can crown himself as president for life acknowledging his outstanding service protecting Amerikkka from the Islamic menace.

:sarcasm: Sorry, I have been watching WWII documentaries on Hitler all weekend, the German people bought the lie so easily. I wonder, when the christian right seizes control, who will be placed in detention? Meet you in Manzanar, I will be the one wearing the dopey scrub shirt with the image of Che Guevara stenciled on the back. ;)

16. Thanks!
It's okay though.

It's good to see how many religious people are supporting the Day of Reason instead of the National Day of Prayer.

Unlike prayer, a celebration of reason only excludes idiots, and they're only idiots by choice.

I would love to see all liberal religious leaders and their followers boycott dim son's "special" day.
