3. No... the important part of my message was telepathic
Actually, I just wanted to add your post to my Journal.

Only way to do that is to reply to it, and then add my reply to my journal.

6. I'm slowly making my way
through all of them.

Seeing so many atheist bloggers in one place is almost enough to warm my cold dead atheist heart.

7. From Hellbound Alleee's entry:
I asked you here today to discuss the fact that you deserve to be beaten, tortured, and humiliated. Your thoughts are crimes worthy of sexual humiliation and agonizing pain, for as long as the torturers can keep it up.

In fact, it's not just your thoughts. It's what your ancestors thought. Don't blame me; that's just how it is.

It's not my fault, you see, because, by thinking those thoughts, you have chosen to be branded with hot metal and repeatedly, brutally sodomized. You have said, through your thoughts and actions, that you want to be chained down on a splintery rack, stretched, and shat upon by rabid livestock, while buzzards peck out your eyes. You said, "hey, mister. Would you mind putting me in an episode of twilight zone, where I slowly go into a psychological horror, despair and despondency, never to receive comfort from another human being? That would be great." Hey--that was you talking. Not me.

Check out Hellbound Alleee's podcast sometime. No where near as good as Bloodthirsty Vegetarians, but then what is? ;-) Still, she usually has good topics and discussions.

11. Modem kicks butt as usual.
I love the essay she links to, especially this snip:

There are some people who stay in the closet because coming out could mean losing a job, or being kicked out of the house, or even being beaten or killed. Such people should probably stay in the closet, at least until they can get a new job, or find a home of their own, or move to a locale that isn't socially retarded. But even these people should come out eventually, after they have arranged things so that it is safe to do so. And those who stay in solely to avoid offending friends and family would be better served by coming out now. In the short run, it will be hell, but in the long run, it's the only way to go. The only real alternative is a lifetime of hypocrisy, self-loathing and fear.

I live in a socially retarded area.

12. Hey, if the U of MN study is accurate
Then we all live in a socially retarded area... but I know the feeling.

From the article by Robby Barry that Modem links to:
Coming out is a powerful way of promoting tolerance for atheists. Remember that your Christian friends and family have had their heads filled with stereotypes about atheists by their pastors and fellow Christians. By coming out, you can show that these stereotypes are bull. Indeed, you may be the only atheist they know, and thus the only person capable of dispelling the stereotypes. And if they ever become interested in atheism themselves, they'll know who to turn to when it comes time to ask questions.

I think speaking out about our lack of belief and just living our lives, hanging out with friends, helping out in the community and being the all around nice boring people most of us are is one of the best forms of activism we can participate in and its' desperately needed, especially in light of the results of the U of MN survey. People are getting these wicked distorted pictures of atheists from the media and we have to show them that it's all bull.

belong in his forum.

DU has its share of the socially retarded.

17. Stereotypes
That we have horns? That we eat babies?

Seriously though, I know exactly what you mean. I finally came out to my roomie when she referred to atheists as "atheist fucks". She's another one of those who thinks a good part of the reason the world is going down the toilet is because "you can't mention god in school, so kid's have nothing to keep them in line anymore--nothing to be afraid of".

Yeah, don't teach them that doing XYZ is wrong because it's harmful to people or whatnot, teach them it's wrong because the big man upstairs will send you to hell when you die. :eyes:
