Report: Brett Favre tells Vikings he's not returning
<snip>

"Brett Favre, the 40-year quarterback who led the Minnesota Vikings to a 12-4 record and to the NFC Championship game last season, has reportedly told the team he will not return for a second season. A press release is expected later today.

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Fox Sports, Favre gave the Vikings the news Monday night. He had ankle surgery in May, but most observers thought the surgery was successful enough that he would come back for a 20th season. It was only a year ago that he threw for over 4,200 yards with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions, one of the best seasons of his career.

Favre would have been paid $13 million if he had returned. With his retirement, the remaining quarterbacks on the Vikings roster are Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and rookie Joe Webb."

1. Either the ankle's gone or he's sitting out the pre-season to more give it time to heal

10. The Vikings
evidently aren't entirely buying it.

From the above article (google):

"I love Brett and he reserves the right to do what he wants to do," defensive end Jared Allen said. "We obviously love him as a teammate. We'd like to have him back. But until it's official, I'll believe it when I see it."

Star running back Adrian Peterson said his gut feeling was that Favre would be handing him the ball in the Sept. 9 opener against New Orleans, and that is what Saints receiver Lance Moore expects to see as well.

Head coach Brad Childress said after the morning practice that he had not been directly contacted by Favre and called the 40-year-old quarterback's status with the team "fluid." Childress has shown a great deal of patience with Favre, saying he would not set a deadline for a decision and allowing him to skip training camp for a second straight year.
