Stephen Strasburg injured again..
Stephen Strasburg was injured for the second time in a month and exited early, this time wincing with a strained tendon in his right forearm, as the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-1 Saturday night.

Strasburg left with one out in the fifth inning. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said the young ace would have an MRI exam Sunday in Washington.

"You're always concerned when your pitcher leaves in the middle of the game, but we'll see what the MRI says and we'll react accordingly," Rizzo said.

This guy looks like a great young pitcher, but these injuries have got to be concerning. Could he be another Mark Prior?

1. Unless he changes his delivery---
these injuries will continue.

2. The next Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Rich Harden ...
All brilliant young pitchers who could never shake the injury bug. We can hope this is just a case of Strasburg tired and fatigued from pitching past his limit. That would go away as he gets stronger.

3. What I heard is he had this same injury in college
AND PITCHED THROUGH IT. From what I can gather neither injury hes had has been severe and both have been stuff he has had in the past. I think he's going to be prone to these little issues. Doesn't mean at all that he's going to be Kerry Wood though. Means they will just be careful with him--as they are being.

4. Nothing wrong with being careful
considering this kid's potential, but two injuries, however slight, have got to be worrying for Nationals fans.

There's been talk about the mechanics of Strasburg's delivery and I'm sure you've seen this from White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper:

"Strasburg does something that I call an upside down arm action. Listen, I'm not wishing this guy bad by any stretch, but for him to have some problems right now when they are really, really watching him. What are they to think when they are trying to get 220 from him? He does something with his arm action that's difficult for a guy, in my mind, to pitch a whole lot of innings on. I call it upside down arm action, some people call it an elbow lead, whatever you want to call it. It reminds me a little bit of Kerry Wood. It reminds me a little bit of Prior."

5. Yeah I've heard that.
The problem is, from what I can gather, they are afraid that changing his mechanics might also make some of his pitches much less effective..most notably that wicked 90 mph change up/slider whatever that is...His fastball will always be a wicked pitch but its those other pitches that are making him a great pitcher. And while I've not heard that directly, I suspect thats what the Nats are afraid of. I've heard the commentary about his mechanics many times..So, do you let him keep his style and become a fantastic pitcher who probably will get injured often? Or a more mediocre pitcher who stays healthy all the time. A bit of a dilemma. At least the injuries are in different places which means hopefully neither is chronic....

7. Koufax Had Poor Mechanics
I'd take 7 years of Koufax than 15 years of almost any pitcher i've ever seen. Almost.

I'd have a hard time trying to change a guy who, when on, is practically unhittable.

8. Update: Second MRI ordered.

Sigh- although there seems to be no swelling, I'm definitely NOT encouraged by needing another MRI...:(

11. Shut him down.
I picked him up three weeks before his debut on my fantasy team.
Three weeks in a row, I rolled.
