4. I Have Had Money On The Giants Since May
Better than the fucking stock market. My daughter and I danced and cheered URIBE when he was at bat tonight. She kissed the TV and did her fairy twirl. Her class painted their class pumpkin in black and orange today.

She picked Huff as 17 is her birthday and she loves the red thong stories. Ahhhh kids. Keep it coming GIANTS.

THEY FUCKING ROCK! 3-1 BABY!

7. Man, what kind of odds did you get on that?
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 12:00 AM by Upton
As for dancing, I don't have children, so coming down the stretch in Sept, whenever the Giants would win, I got into a habit of dancing with my two pugs ( who get treats for their co-operation) and singing the first couple lines of the Giants' Bye Bye Baby. It's carried over into the playoffs and some people would probably think I'm nuts, but this is great..

Can you believe my neighborhood's electricity went out in the middle of the eighth inning?

15. You missed the bottom of the ninth?
When Huff slid home and raised his arms in triumph, the place was going crazy. And I'm talking about my living room. LOL

I had radio, and that can be a lot of fun. But visuals are better.

16. The Giants are better than PG&E
in fact it's not even close.

heaven help us if PG&E ever gets naming rights to the Giants' ballpark.

reminds me of the time i was sitting in a nearly statewide blackout, on a beautiful fall day and my friend grabbed a flashlight that he had.

it had the PG&E logo on it.

5. Well, the NLCS has been for the championship of baseball every year
. . . since 1973, when the American League started playing something else.

8. I do not mind SF winning as long as they're playing Texas in the WS.
A SF/NYY series would put me to sleep.

10. You would be in a tiny minority..
At least among sports fans..for I'm willing to bet a Giants/Yankees East/West WS would be a ratings blockbuster..

13. You're missing the point..
most Yankee haters are first and foremost baseball fans. They tune in hoping to see the Yankees get beat. If they are refusing to watch the WS by using the excuse of hating the Yankees, they are not real baseball fans to begin with..

Time for your nap..

23. I don't think so.
Because folks like me don't believe your Giants would match up well with the Yankees. I don't think the games would be at all interesting because it won't be close- so it might start rated well but trail off--I know I have no interest in watching the Yankees blow out you guys. At least I think the Phillies would make it competitive but still would lose. I really think the Yankees are a waaay better team than SF. And this is from someone who loathes them.

26. Folks have been underestimating the Giants all year...
few thought they would win the NL West, few thought they matched up well against the Phillies.

The Giants finished only two games out of the WC last year and have arguably the best starting rotation in baseball..why shouldn't they have been considered to be a contender this year? The Giants, after you remove their 6-12 mark against chief nemesis San Diego, went 86-58 versus everybody else...why shouldn't they have been thought to be a threat to the Phillies?

I'll tell you why. It's all about that East Coast Bias in the sports media that folks back east (figures) keep claiming doesn't exist. The downplaying of the Giants success, the constant underrating of the Giants as a team, is just more proof that it does..

Funny how I knew about Lincecum ,Cain and the fact that the Giants had one of the best pitching rotations in the NL but having a somewhat questionable offensive without ever having seen a game here in the East though.
Bias in the media? Possibly. But we do know alot more about you folks out there on the West Coast then you seem to give us credit for. Though the Giants were covered much more in the last month out here once it became clear they were contenders. I actually think that the Bias you speak of is more thoroughly evident with regards to some of the less competitive teams..I knew far less about the Dodgers and the Rockies than the Giants for instance.
Also: NL West in general was weak against the NL East so why shouldn't people have thought the Giants were going to be inferior..Even my weak ass Nats weren't bad agaisnt the West..

28. That LOL
was often the kind of response Giants fans have been putting up with the past two years when we've claimed the Giants were real contenders. You've seen it right here on this board. Regardless of how the NLCS finishes, we've been proven to be correct.

I don't know about you personally TZ, but my experience with sports fans from back east is that they don't know as much about the Giants as they think they do. A two time Cy Young winner like Lincecum..sure, but the Giants as a team, no way.

I've lived on the West Coast all my life. Among the vast majority of the sports fans out here, it's not even a question as to whether or not East Coast Bias exists..it's a fact.

18. I didn't intend for it to make sense
It was in reference to the comments after SF defeating Atlanta for the series, there were a lot of comments like the one I just made as well as they didn't look impressive and various other comments that predicted SF was going to get killed by the Phillies.

19. Ok, I understand now...most of the folks back east gave the Giants zero chance
i never thought it would be easy --the Giants this year don't make anything look easy!

but comparing pitching, the Giants are better than the Phils and deeper.

the proof to me is that Bochy felt free enough to do the wise thing by leaving Zito out of the starting rotation (though he's still available for other situations).

it appears Bochy is using people based on how they've been performing the past month or so rather than on how much they cost or what they did for us in April or in 2009.

i think Baker would've done the opposite. Bochy looks wiser and more able to capitalize on the moment.

22. Still not impressed
By either NL team. I truly believe that either the Rangers or the Yankees will win the WS--much better offense by both teams and the Rangers at least have pitching that is quite capable of squashing a some what questionable SF offense. Dude...both Halladay and Lincecum looked worse than Sabathia IMO last night. And it looks like Cliff Lee is better than ANY NL pitcher at this point. I'm really hoping the Rangers win today because I really have a bad feeling that the Yankees will sweep the series vs either NL team. And I don't need that again.

25. They've really laid that wood on the Phillies when they win!
Except of the 3-0 game the other night, it could easily have been 3-1 PHILLIES- who really had good opportunity to win game 1 and game 4. I'm watching Philly kill themselves with errors and some really bad hitting actually.
You tell me who is more impressive. A 4-3 win with both "Aces" struggling or Cliff Lee beating maybe the best line up in baseball 8-0. I'm almost willing to bet money that the AL team wins HANDILY.
Both teams are playing some mediocre baseball if you ask me. Both are blowing lots of scoring opportunities. Both are making defensive errors. And both have pitchers that look like their nerves are getting to them. Both Philly and SF look a lot less impressive than in the NLCS than in the first round. You tell me you don't believe Josh Hamilton, A-Rod,Nick Swisher et al aren't going to be able to devour the NL pitchers. Go on.

29. Okay..
the AL hitters are not going to be able to devour the NL pitchers. Good pitching almost always trumps good hitting. And with the Giants and Phillies, you have the two best starting rotations in MLB..
