Brett Favre has 2 fractures in ankle
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was diagnosed Monday with two separate fractures in his left ankle, and his status for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots is uncertain.

An MRI revealed an avulsion fracture -- which takes place when a tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of the bone -- and a stress fracture, coach Brad Childress said. Favre, 41, has played in 291 consecutive games.

Surgery is not required and Childress said: "Once he's functional he can play. ... I wouldn't rule anything out in terms of the end of the week. I don't really have a time framework on it."

<snip>

Childress says Favre's streak will not affect his decision whether to play him Sunday at New England. The coach says they have to do what what's right for the Vikings.

I posted because he has that consecutive starts record going and it may end next week.

1. Wouldn't it be ironic if his streak ended with a loss to the Packers?
Whether it was his ankle, his elbow, Jenn Sterger, or being 41 years old, he did not look good last night.

I hate it when great players don't know when to retire.

Eisner at Disney, and I was just thinking about Tom Brady as LA's Mayor...they just hang on.

3. The Sterger story shows why he's hanging on...
... he's got nothing else to do, no matter how many BS stories he tries to sell about mowing the lawn and spending time with the family.

10. Very true..
other than football and Lee's commercials what else does the man know how to do? He's never appeared to have any interests other than football and it's all he's done since he was a kid. Retirement would probably the toughest thing he's faced in life: what to do next?

8. I wish he would have stuck with his retirement.
It's sad watching a guy who just can't take the wear and tear anymore.

9. Something tells me he'll play, or at least try to
The pundits and announcers will gush about how tough he is, and how much he's dedicated to the team, and blame the receivers for not catching his passes. It's a sadly predictable routine.
