43,000 Giants fans sing along with Steve Perry to Journey's 'Lights'
This happened in the middle of the eighth inning. The Giants went on to score seven in the bottom of the inning. Not saying there's any connection, just one more moment to remember in what has become a season of great memories for Bay Area fans..

1. This is really awesome
I will be in SF next weekend and I'm hoping I will be in a city celebrating a championship. I once lived a summer in Berkeley and SF has always been one of my favorite city. The music has always been my favorite and I still listen to the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver and a host of others from the SF scene.

This is a city that deserves it. There is no comparison between Dallas and SF. One is beautiful with a beautiful feeling of openness and progressive values and one is where JFK was assassinated.

Do I need to say anymore.

2. Proof that some cities don't have the class to host a World Series.

4. It really is..
that song always makes me homesick anyway, but to see all those wonderful Giants fans singing it in the setting of the World Series just blows me away. This team has just taken over the Bay Area.

I'm similar to you Lisa. For though I live in Washington state and am very happy here, my heart is somewhere else.

5. I've watched that video twice and it made me cry both times
I cannot imagine Mariners fans doing that. They don't sing at games (as I learned when I first moved here).

6. I'm rooting for the Giants in the Series, but...
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 06:14 PM by HuckleB
They sure aren't making it easy to do. I mean those Grecian Formula beards are almost as bad as the Angels' Rally Monkey was, and now this need to pull Journey/Steve Perry out of the dust bin, instead of, well, it's not like San Francisco hasn't produced more than a few grand slams when it comes to bands...

I know. I know. I don't live there, so I'm never going to get it.

Thank goodness for that (that being I'm never going to get it when it comes to Grecian Formula beards and Steve Perry)!

;)

7. Well..next time
perhaps the SAN FRANCISCO Giants should check with the good people of PORTLAND before breaking out some tunes..:eyes:

Journey was formed in San Francisco. Steve Perry is a long time Giants fan...not someone just hopping on the bandwagon.

8. Duh.
That doesn't mean Journey doesn't suck, while San Francisco has plenty of other great bands to choose from...

22. Okay..
I'm sure the Giants will be happy to take suggestions for next year. They actually have in the past for this sort of thing. Just remember the band or individual must meet the following criteria:

Be from the Bay Area.. San Francisco, Marin or the Peninsula, none of this East Bay Oakland A's crap.

Be a true Giants fan. Not someone who just hopped on the postseason bandwagon.

Have written an anthem to the City that most people from the area know well enough to sing along to.

I'm just offering up criticism. That's what sports fans do!

21. Talk about freakin' awesome . . .
I've stood in that very spot, days and nights. Some nights, it's so still you see the bridge reflected in the water below, just like in that picture. All the years I've lived here, and it's still a thrill to drive over that bridge, open all my windows, and let the clean air in.

One night I was driving back from Marin- there was a crescent moon out over the Bay, and the cool air was crystal clear- the moon seemed to follow me as I drove over the bridge, and somehow a transcendental shift happened in me at that instant.

And it looks like our Giants have undergone a transcendental shift from the old days of "OK, let's figure out how to blow this game."

19. Well done, HuckleB.
What's that one song you always hear in stadiums? Man. I have to suffer hearing it in Kinnick. No mute button, though. Hopefully, you might consider staying in the Sports Forum after this "classic" is fini.

And, yeah, I'll stop by, now and then...

28. I think I've trained myself to tune that one out.
On the other hand, I must not be that good at it. Something tells me they always follow that up with "Cotton Eye Joe" Plumber, for I am now in the midst of a seizure with the memory of that song pounding my innards.

Thanks a lot.

23. I find your position
extremely hypocritical. Considering you've kissed a washed up actor like Kevin Costner's ass, right here in the Sports Forum, just because he made a movie in Iowa.

13. A sweep would be awesome...
The Giants got swept by the A's in 1989, the Earthquake series..
That was bitter, but.. this would be awesome.

15. I remember that well.
I was tending bar in Flagstaff, AZ, where we had a fair number of college students from the Northern California in attendance. Anyway, the TV was on when it hit. Very eerie.

Even though they beat us, I'm glad to see the Giants fans enjoying the moment. Seriously, I'll take San Fransisco over Dallas any day of the week.
