The NBA went to a 7 game series to keep their 1 & 2 seeds from getting knocked out in the 1st round
But it hasn't worked. This year a 1 got bounced. Last year #2 Dallas went out in the first round. In 2008, #2 Dallas went. In 2007, #1 Dallas went.

The long series hasn't protected the high seed the way the NBA had hoped. I'm sure it paid off the other way. In cash.

1. The NBA and NHL regular seasons are only like spring training...
meaningless. The playoffs are everything.

The Spurs should get a trophy for finishing 1st in the West.

3. I never liked the 5-game format
I can't really explain why but I feel that 7 just feels right, especially when later rounds have 7 games.

I hope the MLB goes to 7 games for the first round but no other changes such as more teams or byes.

With regard to #1 seed, I don't believe it has happened often since NBA went to 16 games. Twice under best of five, Denver over Seattle and New York over Miami in 1999. I don't count 1999 because it was strike shortened season, also that same New York team made it to the finals.

After that Golden State over Dallas and Memphis over San Antonio. There may be one more I'm forgetting.
