How about those SF Giants?
Six game winning streak at home. And since Colorado hasn't been able to play the past two days, the Giants get to sit at the top of the heap, for awhile at least! :woot:

The Giants are the only team in the only sport that I follow.

21. I forgot to tell you I stole the Walgreen's made Timmy Cry picture
to taunt a Giants fan on Facebook, who then had to sport the Nats curly W for 4 days after we bet avatars on that series. BWAHAHAHA.

6. Who cares? I'll take a walk-off win any day, even with 1 run
Seriously, who cares? They won, that's all that matters.

That poster has been here since Feb 10. I think if it was cboy, he'd be in here the day he re-registered. I'm not sure about cboy but DeeJay has excellent grammar. Don't recall how cboy's grammar was.

13. It's not him Jon..
And you've been here long enough to know that anybody who dares to support the Giants is immediately accused of being cboy by the amateur detective. Heck, I was accused of being cboy's sock within several days of my first appearance here in the Sports Forum. I guess he figures if he accuses everybody, sooner or later he's got to be right. Sort of a variation on..if you throw enough mud at the wall, some of it will stick.

22. I've got some information for you..
though it's not confidential..Certainly not to the folks at Coors Field who were booing by the 4th inning. Among other things, Ubaldo's walking of the opposing pitcher twice apparently didn't sit too well with Rockies fans..

Jimenez through 6 starts is 0-3 with an ERA of 6.67 Contrast that with his 2010 stats through 6 starts of 6-0, ERA 0.87..

Going back to last year, the Rockies have now lost 9 consecutive starts by Mr. gonna be a 30 game winner..

8. I watched the highlights of the DBacks and Giants game
on Tuesday on the local news. Crazy game where Lincecum and Ian Kennedy pitched extremely well. I think Timmy took a no-hitter into the 7th. SF scored the only run of the game for both teams in the bottom of the ninth.

Ah Rockies just got three straight outs with runners in scoring position. :(

14. The Giants have been playing great..
Edited on Fri May-13-11 08:32 AM by Upton
these last 6 games have reminded me of the second half of last year..great pitching, just barely enough but timely hitting, close, tense, and a different hero every game. They're now 12-3 in 1 run games, the best percentage in MLB. Like Kuiper says.."Giants baseball. Torture."..but a lot us wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh, and you're not the only Giants fan here in this particular forum. In fact, there are a surprisingly large amount of Giants fans throughout DU. I'd venture to say we have as many fans here as any team in MLB..And don't take those posters who suspect you're cboy seriously. All but one of them is just playing around...and the one exception isn't worth a second thought.

15. I don't agree
Playing "tortured" is playing tortured. It's not playing great.

Several players are playing very well -- the staring pitching has been keeping the team in games. It's great to have Torres back. And Nate Schierholtz may have played himself onto the starting roster. But the bullpen has been shaky -- they hold leads, but barely. Defense at 3rd and Short is iffy, and the team has been terrible at moving runners or batting with RISP (although that seems to have improved a bit on the recent home stand).

Middle of the line-up averages:

Ross: .246
Posey: .244
Burrell: .232
Huff: .215
Tejada: .206

Big credit to Bruce Bochy for doing a remarkable job of managing.

I'm looking forward to some longer home stands. This has been a ridiculous schedule so far.

16. Okay, maybe not great..
at least not at the plate, but when have the Giants not had problems in that area over the last few years? Though, strangely enough, they currently have a better team BA than the Rockies (.236-.232)..

Offense has been on the decline throughout MLB for awhile now. Run scoring last season was at its lowest level since 1992 and the average April MLB BA for this year (.251) was the lowest since 1992's April of .249. One can only speculate as to why, but two things immediately come to mind..we're now officially and statistically out of the steroid era and there are a lot of fine young pitchers around.

I think Ross and Posey will definitely come around. Cody is already looking better and you know Buster will, though perhaps Bochy should give him a little more time at first. The incident Wednesday night had everyone scared. You never know with Huff given his age but he's better than .215..And what can you say about Tejada?

The schedule has indeed been terrible, they played 22 of their first 31 on the road, get a 6 game homestand, and now they've got to go back on the road for 7 more. According to my calculations, that means they will play 29 of their first 44 on the road.

23. Torture only equals Great to us Giants fans (and Cheney)
It's part of what makes the Giants so charming to their fans, I think. I wonder if I would like them as much if they consistently played at the top of their game. They might become too predictable or boring then. Plus, they truly are a cast of characters.

24. Thanks for bringing that up...
yeah, it's part of the team's charm. I'd still like to see a couple of blow-out victories.

BTW, I was never a fan of this "torture" moniker. Maybe it was mildly amusing when Duane Kuiper labeled the Giants that way in 2010, but considering how heinous torture is I'm fine with calling Giants' play "highly frustrating."

19. Dear god, this forum is getting paranoid.
As for the Giants yeah, a good run, but I think its pretty evident that the NL West is a much easier division than the NL East where the fourth place Nats took three of four from the Giants. Be interesting to see how they do agaisnt the other teams, like say Philadelphia...
