1. Jackson: "The time is now."

If they make the playoffs it will be worth it.

On edit: Jason Campbell is a free agent in 2012, so I think he's finished as a Raider. If it goes as planned Palmer will give way Terrelle Pryor in 2013 or 2014.

2. I just made a similar post
but had to take a phone call for a few minutes, and the post came in long after yours. Sorry about that.

I think that trade is absolutely INSANE!

4. it's incredibly risky
Getting Palmer himself isn't necessarily a bad move, but giving up two first round picks? I don't know. He is 32 years old. The Raiders are now without their 1,2,3,4,and 7 picks in the 2012 draft. If they make the playoffs great! If they don't, someone is getting fired.

5. Management is in high reward - low risk mode.
If it works out they all look like geniuses.
If it doesn't, they are expecting a major shake-up after the season anyways, and can just point their fingers and pass the buck around.

6. This is a team decision to go for broke...
Ownership, management and coaches all on the same page. Jackson was receiver's coach at Cincinnati with Palmer so there's working history there. Palmer is escaping hell and will be amped to play. Raiders are pretty young as a team so I don't think they'll be hit too hard. If it doesn't work out no will get "fired," except maybe Palmer.

Look, if they don't make a move they're essentially throwing in the towell at Week 7 to do what... wait for three more years? No way.

7. I agree
I don't think anyone in the NFL is that good this year, and I think the Raiders could be in the mix for a SB run with solid but unspectacular QB play. Why not try?

Also, good work by Cinci to hold out and get higher value from Palmer than they would've received in the off-season.

10. Its one 1st round, one conditional pick.
The second pick only becomes a 1st rounder if Oakland makes it to the AFC title game. Management is in panic mode and have nothing to lose. If they make it deep into the playoffs, they'll be seen as invaluable. If they don't make it deep into the playoffs or miss the playoffs entirely they were going to be replaced by the new GM anyway.
