I Hate When Fans Can't Admit That They Got Lucky
Have some integrity. Admit that the refs were on your side.

Personally, I could care less who won las night, I'm a Jets fan, you all know that.

But that was just an abortion of a game. EVERY call went against Seattle.

If you Steelers fans have ANY balls, admit it - you were lucky.

ADMIT IT - that refs helped you.

ADMIT IT - sports (like politics) is rigged.

I don't know what to believe in anymore.

1. What does "having balls" have to do with it? nt

2. I'll admit it. I was staunchly in the "Refs behind Colts - out to

get Steeler's" camp after that divisional game. (And I still believe someone was trying to manipulate that game into Indy's favour - all you had to do was watch the game).

Just like after watching this game. Terrible calls. Blatantly obvious bias. It was a sad spectacle. I say this as a die-hard Lions fan...

3. Not Sure
If everyone looks at the rules and thinks about the philosophy of sports everyone might realize the game was not rigged. As far as the philosophy of sports goes many people who watch basketball know that many commentator have said that being a good actor can get a player a foul call when their is no foul has been committed. Big Ben was a great actor. Right after he went down he put the ball over the plane. The refs may not have seen when Ben went down and when the ball broke the plane. The rule of overturning a play is very strict. A call can only be overturned if there is overwhelming evidence that the call was wrong. Once the call had been made it was hard to tell if Rothlesburger was able to get the ball over the plane on his first effort.

Even though I wanted the Steelers to win I did not think Ben had a touchdown; however, due to the rules of the game I was not surprised that the ruling was allowed to stand. There was not enough evidence to prove that Ben did not get the touchdown. So it could just be that the rules kept the refs from calling the game well.

5. Granted...but it sure looked like he was going to spot the ball,

when he changed his mind. I believe he should of spotted the ball and let instant reply decide if it was a touchdown. But, either way it was a horrbile call.

What about the unsportsmanlike penalty on Hasselbeck, for TACKLING the runner with the ball? I would like an explanation on that one...

"If it looks like a duck..."

8. The Rule
I understand how some people are upset at the calls made during the game; however, for me if there is a rule for what the refs do I usually accept what they call.

The rule for the Hasselback thing is this. If and offensive players blocks a defensive blocker below the knees that is a penalty. It seems that the refs may have thought Hasselback was acting as an offensive player blocking a defensive blocker. In actuality Hasselback was tackling an offensive player. I understand how some people say that due to the rule it is proven that the play was a bogus call in that Hasselback was actually tackling and offensive player.

15. right, but the point is
(and the call should not have been overruled, just as the fumble rightly was overruled) every single close call gave the benefit of the doubt to the Steelers. There was not one call the entire night that went against the Steelers that was questionable or a judgement call.

I don't think the fix was in, simply the home field emotional reaction of the refs, and that was a home game for the Steelers. It happens every week in the NFL, but not usually in the Superbowl, since it is the 'best' crew and a neutral crowd.

That said, the Steelers made the most of a bad game and won, while the Seahawks made the worst of the situation and lost...

4. Just shameful. And LUCK had nuttin to do with it. Blatant rigging.
And you know what? I thought the refs jobbed the Steelers in the AFC title game. All season long - the fix was in: Seahawks and Colts. I did not watch the 1st half of the AFC title game closely, but I looked up at the tv a couple of times during the second half and saw some STRANGE calls (the non-interception that CLEARLY was), and some other stuff I don't even remember now (oh yeah, that's the point).

So after the Steelers overcame the refs, guess the Men Behind the Curtain threw down behind the Steelers. It was so blatant - from the pre-game through the promos.

And if we refuse to believe our lying eyes on this one - we are in a heap of trouble considering all the other steaming piles of sh*t laying at our feet and before our eyes everyday.

6. Oh please
It's called the rules of the game. If you break the rules you get penalized for it it's that simple. My team got knocked out early in the playoffs so I could care less who won, but I thought the officiating was fine. Seattle messed up repeatedly and got penalized for it.

Take away half the refs' supposed bad calls and guess what, Seattle still would have lost that game. The play calling on their side blew that game more than the refs did.

People need to get a grip here with their theories on rigged football games.

21. Is it that hard to understand?
Because the Seahawks did nothing but talk shit before the game about how they'd blow the Steelers away. Now they get to hear it back.

7. Lucky? Sure. Rigged? No
The Refs weren't on our side, but the majority of the obviously bad calls were. Still it was nowhere near the level of bad playcalling in the Steelers/Colts game or the Broncos/Patriots game. The referee's called a tight game, and that usually means one team or the other is going to suffer more for it. This time it was the Seahawks. It wasn't enough to take the game away from them though. They had plenty of chances. Dropped passes. Passes out of bounds. More.

Were we lucky? Sure. Luck is always a part of the game.

Just like after the Colts game though, which went heavily against the Steelers (far far more than this game went against the Seahawks) I don't think the game is rigged. Sure it's fun to say but it's not.

There were I think two legitimate bad calls in the game, both went against Seattle, and neither I think changed the outcome of the game as much as Seattle's own inabilty to finish their drives.

9. Most of the Steelers fans I know personally have admitted they got lucky.
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 10:46 AM by HuckleB
My wife's best friend is a life long fan, born in Pittsburgh, so her house was full of Steelers fans yesterday, and they enjoyed themselves, while acknowledging that the refs were a bit off throughout the game.

13. As a Steeler fan myself, I will say "the refs sucked"...but
the other issue that I think hurt Seattle is their coaching staff's BIZARRE clock management both before the end of the half and, of course, at the end of the game. That was piss poor clock management.

As far as officiating, the NFL needs to address this issue because there are just too many incidents that occurred during the season and particularly during the playoffs. Sometimes the refs screwed the Steelers (playoffs) and sometimes they helped us (Superbowl).

And purchasing gear. It seems to get worse every year.

Congratulations!

Besides...

It's always good to see Paul Allen lose!

20. Seahawks could have gone into half-time down by 1
but who knows what the hell they were up to on the field.

Clock management was even more screwed up at the end of the game. They were in position to kick a field goal and bring it to 8 with still a minute on the clock. Recover the on-side and who knows....

Instead they seem to aim for the TD first and eat up time to where even if they got the TD the on-side kick would have eaten up whatever was left.

It was an ugly game but it was always within the Seahawks grasp.

17. Incredibly incompentent officiating I'm used to
But it was shockingly one-sided in that game.

I've come across a few Pitt fans who will acknowledge that, but many more with their heads in the sand.

That's okay, I don't blame them. No one wants their championship tarnished, but that doesn't change the fact of what happened out there.

Shame for both sides.

19. The officiating was absolutely terrible
especially considering that it was the Super Bowl. The NFL owes America better.
