February = Month from Hell for Sports Fans
February has to be the worst month for sports fans. It's the only month of the year where nothing happens except for the Superbowl, but even that's one day and anti-climatic.

The NBA and the NHL's real seasons don't start until the playoffs.

College basketball grinds along until the big tourney.

Football is over.

Baseball is just stirring.

There's nothing to get real excited about. Nothing.

1. College Basket ball is great. Conference Championships are rounding out....
and the big rivalry games are just super.

2. Totally agree.
Basketball and Hockey aren't real high on my list, and I'm not crazy about college basketball until March Madness. And I'm longing to watch my Phillies again.

12. For the first time in 45 years

I'm excited about the Phillies pitching staff. Shore up the bullpen a little and they'll break through this year. Got to run; have to make my Thursday afternoon Gene Mauch trauma syndrome counseling session.

P.S. The Flyers are breaking every record for sucking this year huh?

5. February is a great month for me
My systems work much better in conference play than non-conference in November and December. The second meetings are great anti-revenge angles for home teams in the first half.

The golf season heats up with the California swing. I start compiling stats even though I don't bet until the Florida tournaments beginning in March.

The worst sports month by far is July. Football training camp is still a month away. The Triple Crown events are over. So are the NBA playoffs. You've got Wimbledon early in the month and the British Open about the 20th. Those rescue the month as much as they can but that's about it.

14. Champions League 1st legs have already been and gone
Personally, I'm more concerned about Sheffield Wednesday v Southend United at Hillsborough tomorrow.

15. Fans of the stateside game have to wait until April for the MLS season;
in the meantime I'm watching the local Univision/Telefutura/Galavision stations trying to figure out if I like any of the Mexican League teams.

In short, February sucks as far as sports goes.

Perhaps consequently, I've always thought of the "Sports Year" as ending with the Super Bowl; after that there's nothing to get excitied about (as far as I'm concerned anyway) until March Madness, etc.

11. Agreed, but
the break may do us well and ensures our energy level will be sky high each time the football season starts.

On a side note, the NASCAR season starts in February and for many that is a big sporting event and many get excited about it.

16. I forgot to mention the match play championship
It's been great theater this week, plenty of tight matches and upsets.

Tiger's win streak is over after his loss in the third round to Nick O'Hern. Tiger trailed all day but blew a 4 foot putt on the first extra hole that would have won it. This is the second time in three years that lefty O'Hern has dumped Tiger in this event.

NBC can't be thrilled. Not only is Tiger gone, but so are Mickelson and most of the big names and almost all of the Americans.
