http://www.sacbee.com/100/story/663619.htmlThis is a ridiculously easy play to call. Lane Kiffin should sit back and let Al Davis twist and shout, looking like an even bigger buffoon than usual, and force the Raiders' owner to decide between common sense and dollars and cents.
You know what he'll do. You win if you wait him out.
Then take the money and run.
The organization's protests and spin control notwithstanding, Davis clearly doesn't want his promising young coach around anymore, and Kiffin doesn't need any more of Davis' chronic meddling. Though reasonable men would resolve their differences and collaborate on the formidable task of rebuilding the Raiders, that will never happen.
Davis just can't help himself. He's a power-hungry has-been, and no matter how many coaches he devours, he's never satisfied.
What's He Thinking?

(01-25) 19:08 PST -- For $4 million, Al Davis has decided to embarrass the brand name Oakland Raiders. For $4 million, Al Davis wants to degrade his legacy yet again. For $4 million, Al Davis wants to find a new scapegoat to take the blame for this rotting hulk of a franchise.
To which we can only say, that must be one important hunk of money.
Davis is so unhappy with Lane, a.k.a. Lance, Kiffin as his coach that he is willing to make Kiffin crawl pantsless over a mile of hot gravel just to get the rest of the money promised to him under a contract Davis signed one year ago. He won't fire him, but he sent him a letter of resignation that, if Kiffin doesn't sign, still strips him of most normal coaching prerogatives.
The letter hasn't been seen, but too many people know about it, and have spoken quietly about it for the better part of a week. Even the boilerplate Raider denial says only that "Kiffin is the coach, there isn't an issue," not that there is no such letter. The Raiders are too skilled at denials to forget a loose end like that, especially one that would make so many of their media enemies look foolish.
