KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee has retired Todd Helton's
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) Number 3, the first baseball number the Volunteers have enshrined.
More than 1,300 people, including family, friends and former teammates, turned out Wednesday night to mark the occasion, and to honor the Knoxville native
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) who played for Tennessee in the 1990s.
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam proclaimed it "Todd Helton
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) Day," and a street was named "Todd Helton
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) Drive."
Helton
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) said he was "truly honored" to be in front of the crowd and have a University of Tennessee jersey.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton called Helton
(First Baseman for the NL Champion Colorado Rockies) "a class act."
