Brady and Moss out of Pro Bowl because of "injuries."
Those ego bruises can really take you off your game.

1. Who watches the Pro Bowl anyway??
Watching paint dry sounds more enticing.

2. indeed.
why go risk injury for a meaningless game on six days rest? for the free trip to Hawaii? pretty sure they can afford to go on their own. for the fans? no one watches that anyway.

you want to be the first person to blow out their knee in an exhibition game? Moss is a free agent, an injury could cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars next season, why risk that?

4. Not to mention it's usually 75 degrees outside here
when the game is on, and the last thing I wanna do on my day off when it's nice is sit on the couch and watch exhibition football.

5. I haven't watched a pro-bowl since the early 90s. I don't think
that any football fans (except ones in Hawaii) would care one bit if it were dropped permanently. Pretty funny that the Cowboys have like 7 pro-bowlers and the Giants have I think 1.

6. I agree with you but
its still on the NFL schedule. If players and coaches want to do away with great, take it up with the league. But if one is selected one should make every effort to be there in one form or another.

7. Oh absolutely. The parade of wussies coming up with an
injury just before the pro-bowl is laughable.

15. one has no option about being selected, though
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 04:23 PM by northzax
you can't say 'no', and you can't decline the 'honor'. you don't get paid more than a per diem to be there, you've been playing, in the case of the PAts and Giants, for five straight months. you just played the biggest game of your career, and now you are supposed to hop a 12 hour flight? for a couple hundred bucks a day and an 'honor' so that the NFL can make more money off you?

9. Good. Pats already lost one dude permantly from the Pro Bowl years ago.
The game is a pointless waste and an injury waiting to happen for no good reason at all. I'm glad they're not going.

10. Then lets us urge the league to do away with the game
I contend it is now an honor and those honored should show up, if not play. You are all for phantom injuries instead of trying to alter the situation from within? Brady and Moss and anyone else should tell Goodell what you have told me. Should we do away with preseason practice and preason games for the same reason?

11. I think the game should be done away with, and have for years.
In fact, the only All Star game worth a damn is MLB's. The rest are mostly just parodies of their respective sport.

I will say I agree that they could show up though. I can understand that angle.

As for preseason, more and more players are opting out and playing as little as possible before the season, so the players and coaches obviously worry about injuries then. We shouldn't do away with it though because that's when you see what the new guys do. But there's little need to risk your star players in the Hall of Fame game, ya know? :)

12. Well lets get to it
On behalf of the players let us do what we can to end the game as we know it. We'll have to keep this from Hawaii posters. One can still be selected as an all pro and duly honored without having to play in a game.

And I think your last sentence is correct, sarcasm or not. :)

14. and the best way to do that
is to have the people folks want to see not show up over and over. frankly, I don't see why any defensive players show up to play, they aren't allowed to do their job (see: Taylor, Sean: hit on punter) defensive players, especially linebackers, pass rushers and safeties, are there to be embarrassed by the offense. how fun.

and yes, the preseason should be two games. plenty of time to assess players. but it won't be, too much money on the table. same with Hawaii.

16. I would suggest the best way
is honesty. The players tell the league they don't want to risk injury and the game should no longer go on. Not showing up just results in replacements. I think its a valid argument. In an ideal world two exhibition games would be plenty and they both would be played for charitable purposes.

19. but what about players who want to play?
maybe you didn't make the playoffs, and want something to stay in shape. I like the idea of moving the game to the same city as the superbowl, the day before. players playing on Sunday would be excused. so would coaches. everyone is already there, anyway, let's play a game!

17. Doesn't the NFL have a rule requiring to report injuries?
The official report said Brady's problem was his shoulder. I seem to remember a baseball team being fined for fudging the extent of an injury during the playoffs.

18. I don't know
My question to those two is do you really have an injury? If yes, fine, enjoy your offseason, if no, you are lying, lets have a chat. I've been sold by other posters to do away with the game. I recall strahan's miraculous recovery after the preseason.

20. yes, well, they are NFL players
they are always injured, right? the only question is 'how injured?'

I see the real injury chart as follows:

Unable to Play under any circumstances. (UPUAC) this usually involves a major joint, concussion or muscle injury and almost always involves surgery.

Able to play in the Playoffs (APIP) one step below UPUAC, you play when the season is on the line, but the week 9 game against Detroit? you rest.

Able to play regular season game (APRSG) the general, every day condition of an NFL veteran, about as healthy as you can imagine a man can be after being repeatedly hit by 300 pound men.

Able to Practice (AP) healthy as you get for a good player, an every day occurence for marginal ones or those fighting for positions. Practice, even non-contact, can be rough, people who know the system may, or may not, practice with the team.

Preseason Condition (PC) what you get after taking 7 months to let the dings and knocks and minor sprains heal. also rookies, anyone coming off a several week suspension.

now you never play a level down unless you have to to keep your job or season alive. no one on the Giants or Pats is below APRSG, most are somewhere between that and APIP. other players have had at least three weeks to recover from the grind of the season (And those not in the playoffs have had six weeks)
