can we get some love for Barnesly?
taking down the Reds at Anfield?

Liverpool 1-2 Barnesly. 92nd minute strike on the counterattack to take it. Insane. FA cup, of course.

For those of you not familiar, this is, in essence, the Mud Hens beating the Mets at Shea in October.

1. Not really...
The Mets losing a game in October wouldn't be that big an upset ;)

It was a hell of a match, and a gutsy performance - especially that Steele kid in goal.

To put it in proper perspective, this was a bigger upset than Michigan/App State. This would be like a middle of the pack Division III team defeating USC in Pasadena or LSU in Baton Rouge. Liverpool are one of the top 20 teams in the world and Barnsley are also-rans in the Coca-Cola division.

Will be interesting to see which team Barnsley draws in the next round. Would be awesome for them to get a home match.

2. I couldn't think of a Liverpool equivalent
in major sports in the US, what's a perennial top five team that overachieves in a playoff format as opposed to the regular season? College isn't really fair because these are pros, and most team sports in the US use playoff series, so one game upsets aren't as relevant. And there are no minor leagues for pointyball. Maybe this is an XFL team beating the Packers, at Lambeau, in a playoff game.

And we all know they won't get a home game. Five bucks says they draw the Devils, at old trafford, always seems to work that way, you know?

3. ok, so I was wrong
not only do Barnsley get a home gig, they get Chelski! that's a money maker. guess the FA couldn't keep rigging it too much!

your other matches:

* Barnsley vs. Chelsea
* Manchester United vs. Portsmouth
* Bristol Rovers vs. West Bromwich Albion
* Sheffield United/Middlesbrough vs. Cardiff City

That's awesome for Barnsley though.

5. At Old Trafford again
First they get Arsenal at home, now Portsmouth at Old Trafford. What's up with that? Sometimes I wonder about the fairness of the whole FA Cup draw process.

6. always at home
when's the last time they played an FA cup tie on the road? (probably the second leg against Reading last year, right?)

Heck, at least it's an EPL team, not West Bromwich or something.

10. Wow.
Appalacian State can't touch that.

In the NFL, a 14-point underdog is still considered a 1 to 7 chance of winning.

I can't think of an equivelant point spread in college football or college basketball to equal a 50-to-1 longshot.
Probably doesn't exisit.

9. Of course we can
I'm stil quite concerned that the Dingles are going to be the pride of Yorkshire, but all the same I can't begrudge them success. I like all South Yorkshire sides other then the blades really.

11. Barnsley now lead Chelsea 1-0 with 9 minutes remaining in Round of 8
If they hold on, they move to the FA Cup Semi-finals.
