Has there ever been a bigger disaster/destruction of a great name franchise than the Kincks?

Although I lost my passion for hoops years ago when the game changed into a track meet, I always held a very fond place in my heart for the Knicks. My first NBA game was the Willis Reed game in the finals against the Lakers and Wilt.

The most remarkable thing is that the owners are just watching the franchise burn to the ground. I cannot figure this out.

1. "DUCK FOLAN" Seen near Madison Square Garden.
Jim Dolan, the idiot bastard son of the Cablevision magnate, has been described by one writer (still nameless) as having the "intelligence of a man-hole cover".

2. the best thing the knicks could do is just STOP
stop signing free agents.
stop making trades.
just stick with what you have. ride it out. let all your bloated contracts expire.

Maybe in five or six years you can rejoin the NBA as a fully functioning franchise.

4. You remember when their collapse began? When they didn't sign Ewing
(and I was not for keeping him)

Following that, nothing has been properly managed. Oh, I miss Red Holtzman.

3. You could make an argument for the Montreal Expos
Granted they were never as high as the Knicks, but the had some solid fan bases and talent, especially pre-1994 strike. A short ten years later, their talent was let go, the fan base dwindled, and spending their last Montreal years with no local radio or TV contract.

Perhaps if there was no 1994 strike things would have turned out differently (they were leading their division over the Braves when the strike hit), but we'll never know.

6. How about the Orioles?
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 04:48 AM by Va Lefty
Very proud franchise with a great history:
18 straight winning seasons '69-'85
3 World Championships
6 American League Championships
9 AL East Championships
Now under the asinine leadership of Peter Angelos we are on our way to our 11th straight losing season!!

13. They've never been a great name franchise, but
what has happened to the Sacramento Kings?

They should have won an NBA title a few years ago when they were a powerful team, but choked against L.A., thanks in part to the refs allowing Shaq to get away with murder.

Then the playboy Maloof brothers dismantled the team.

They fired Rick Adelman, who has only helped Houston win 19 games in a row and counting. :eyes:

Sacramento is a lost ship at sea, which is a shame because the loyal fans who have fiercely supported that team since they moved from Kansas City in the 80's, deserve better.

The playboy Maloofs seemingly only care about their Palms Casino, and their $6,000 Carl's Jr. combo meal:

The ad was aired in Sacramento at the same time:

The Maloof family, especially Joe and Gavin, were under heavy fire in 2006 when they proposed building a new basketball arena in downtown Sacramento and were able to put a tax increase proposal on the fall election ballots. They wanted the taxpayers to pay for the majority of the arena instead of paying for it themselves.

That went over well. NOT!

16. Returning to the Kings of old
When I was in the Army in the early 90's my best bud was a longtime Kings fan. Being from the eastcoast I had no idea there was such a thing. In 91 or 92 we were watching the NBA AllStar game and as every other player from each side was introduced he would say "Drafted him" "had him for a day and traded him" "passed him up in (trade or draft)"

it was a sad sight.

14. It almost happened to the Celtics
Fortunately, new owners came in, purged the place of Rick Pitino and ML Carr, and now my beloved team is back on top as a legitimate contender for the title.

I love this team!!!!
