Happy Birthday Bobby Orr!
60 years old today. And one of the classiest men in any sport anywhere.

-Despite playing for Chicago for parts of 3 seasons, Bobby never cashed a paycheque issued to him by the team. He claimed that if he wasn't able to perform to the best of his abilities, he didn't want to be paid.

-Bobby holds the NHL record for most points in a season by a defenseman ( 138 in the 1970-71 season).

-In 1970, Bobby became the only player in history to win four trophys in one season. He won the Norris, Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smythe trophies for that season.

-Bobby won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most outstanding defenseman eight times.

-In the 70-71 Bobby was a staggering +124

-Bobby led the league in scoring twice. No other defenseman has ever done it once.

2. My earliest memories as a child are hockey related.
I was born in '67 and I remember clearly when Orr scored that goal, my father jumping up and down and yelling with glee. I also remember them winning it in '72.

Now, if we could just win a game THIS year. Another late season slide lately. x(

3. Can you imagine ANYONE in any sport in this day and age
not cashing his paycheck...makes you realize how times have changed.

Don't worry, the season ain't over til it's over.

4. Orr is pure class, even to this day.
There's a reason he's still a hero 40 years later, and it's not just his playing. He's an all around great guy.

I took my nephew to a Pro Am golf tournament on Cape Cod a in 98 where a bunch of NHL players were playing, and on the 7th hole I had the chance to approach Orr and ask if he would sign an autograph for my nephew. Orr called him over and let him drive with him in the golf cart for the rest of the round. The smile on his face was awesome.

In the parking lot we saw Bourque and my nephew asked him for an autograph, no one else around, and Bourque said, "No, I'm too busy."

Which one do you think impressed him more? :)

5. Bourque?
If I'm wrong, do I get a second guess?
