That doesn't seem quite fair to Memphis. Being a number 1 seed should at the very least prevent you from having to play a lower seed in their home state.

I don't really care about Memphis, per se, it just happens to be them. It's not Texas' fault either. I know these sites are picked far in advance, but the teams are selected this year. Why couldn't Texas have been slotted elsewhere? It seems Memphis is being punished for being a one seed. I know North Carolina is playing in Charlotte, but at least they are a one seed.

Now, if Texas makes it to the Final Four (held this year in San Antonio) I won't have an issue with that because the sites are picked so far in advance. I guess it's not that big of a deal overall, but it does seem slightly unfair.

1. Stanford fan here, tell me about it
the whole thing smells. It's a distinct advantage for Texas playing in Houston, last night's game was a virtual home court for the Longhorns. Here's what's happening, Reliant in Houston holds 44,000 for basketball, the NCAA knew they were going to have trouble filling even half that up, their solution: slot Texas in the Houston Regional.

BTW, it's not just "slightly unfair" it's real unfair. It put Stanford and now Memphis as visiting teams in a tournament that supposedly is all about the best meeting on neutral courts. Texas reaches San Antonio it will mean that they could potentially win the NCAA Championship by playing their final four games in their home state.

3. Not in this case

both Houston (160 miles) and San Antonio (80 miles) are relatively close to the UT campus in Austin.

4. Its just how the seeding works out
Its just how the cards play out. Texas earned a trip to Houston, and Memphis was the worst #1 seed, thats just how it works out. You have to remember, a lot of this is about money. If a team is a #1-3 seed, and their is a regional in their home state, odds are they're going to go there. When it all comes down to it, a #3 seed is usually about as good as a #1 seed (which is why all of the #1 seeds have never made it to the FF in the 64 team era, and until 2000, no team had ever won all of their games by 10+). Sure, it might not be the fairest to the #1 seed, but thats what separates the good team from the great teams.

Now, if you want to complain about something, you should mention a regional ALWAYS being in North Carolina.

7. Its not the way it worked out, it was done on purpose
Both Stanford (#3 seed) and Memphis (#1 seed) both will have had to play a #2 seed in Texas on what amounts to a home court for the Longhorns. All this so the NCAA can put a few more people in the seats in Houston and make a few more bucks.

It would have been very easy to put Texas in another region. This is the kind of thing the NCAA Selection Committee should never allow to happen. Unfortunately, in this case, money has trumped fair play.

His Presidential library is at Texas A&M! What the fuck sign is he MAKING?! As an Aggie, I'm outraged. Well, I'm outraged that criminal's library is at my campus, but if you're going to have it there, don't DARE make that...that...sign... Unless you're signaling there are two outs of course. ;)

he flashed a "Gig 'em, Aggies." CBS showed it during the game. Happy now? :)

I understand your frustration since I'm sure we both feel the same way about his association with our STATE, let alone our schools! :)

14. No kidding. I wish they'd all retire to Maine and forget all about Texas.
Sorry about your Longhorns. There will be much consternation at the office tomorrow.

But, the Lady Aggies are in the Elite Eight for the first time ever! :woohoo:

15. Congratulations and good luck!
Memphis was clearly the better team and now history has been made -- all #1 seeds in the Final Four. Guess we should root for Kansas on behalf of the Big XII, huh? :)

17. Memphis over the Tar Heels in the end
I just like the fact that UCLA got back to the final four. They just don't have enough to go much farther though :-(

NC will have a cake walk over the J's and won't know what hit them when they get to the big dance.

18. It was unfair
It was unfair to think Texas could even approach Memphis' level of excellence. No Big Ten(11) teams, so let's go Memphis.

20. Because the NCAA Selection Committee likes screwing with the brackets
and putting Texas and UNC in venues outside their fan base wouldn't have been as much fun for the Selection Committee and their weird sense of fairness/humor.

I know these sites are picked far in advance, but the teams are selected this year. Why couldn't Texas have been slotted elsewhere?

On the bright side, Hightower wasn't calling any Kansas games in the tournament this year. But, I know he'll be there at the Final Four.
