Yup.
That's the Baseball Hall of Fame. I saw it for the first time in 2002 when I went on a road trip to New York to watch the Giants play the Yankees. (Who would have guessed it was going to be the Giants who were to play in the World Series that year.)
It was a great trip .. Cooperstown was awesome of course .. I had to go in a corner a cry a little because as a ridiculously avid baseball fan, the atmosphere made me so emotional .. especially when I got to the NY/SF Giants exhibit. Oh my God.
But something was missing, or should I say, someone was missing.
That would be the all-time MLB leader in base hits, and a 17-fricken-time all-star, and a member of the greatest baseball dynasty dating back to the '70's, IMO.
Absolutely no mention of Pete Rose. Anywhere.
Yea, he bet on baseball, and he rightfully got kicked out.
But his stats were not erased and he should be included at the Hall.
Include information about the scandal at his exhibit -- just like they do at the Black Sox exhibit .. but he has to be there. You can't ignore the greatest base hitter of all time.
And I worry if Bonds and Clemens are not included .. even if they did what they're accused of doing (and we've yet to see the physical evidence), these are still two of the greatest players of all time.
These allegations will never be proved....their crimes will "only" be obstruction of justice at the most.
Put these people in the hall....put a photo of a fan at an away game holding an asterisk next to Bonds' display if need be, along with a history of the controversy. Will I like it? Absolutely not. But it's what happened when Barry didn't play at home.
Do something similar with Clemens. Maybe a photo of him sitting before Congress.
But you can't ignore these people. You can't ignore history.
As it is now, the HOF is not complete without Rose.
Does anyone else care?
