That's right sports fans, the National Football League is going to show the Thursday night game between the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders in 3D. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this morning the broadcast will take place December 4, 2009 using the very latest in 3D technologies as part of a "proof of concept" model. The league hopes the demonstration will show fans what the future holds, according to Howard Katz, NFL senior vice president of broadcasting and media operations.

The NFL is partnering with 3ality Digital, a company specializing in live 3D technology and a company called RealD, a leader in 3D cinema to bring the action live to fans in Boston, Los Angeles and, of course, New York City.

A list of participating area theaters can be found by clicking here and placing a zip code, however, the event is said to be invitation-only so this may only be something for the properly credentialed. Sorry, all you New Yorkers of the Raider Nation.
