Sick to my stomach. What a fucking chump

:puke: :puke: :puke:

Manny says he'll be happy to play for L.A.

:puke: :puke:

By T.J. Simers
COLUMN: Ramirez is back Los Angeles to meet with Frank McCourt and says a two-year deal is fine with him.

Before flying to L.A. to meet with McCourt, Ramirez says that a two-year deal is fine with him, and thanks the fans in L.A. for their support. :puke: :puke:

T.J. Simers
March 4, 2009

From Phoenix -- The phone rings, and the voice sounds familiar, the giggle unmistakable.

"It's me," Manny Ramirez says, "your girlfriend."
What perfect timing, Manny flying to L.A. on Tuesday night as The Times learns that discussions have resumed and progressed to the point where owner Frank McCourt wants to meet with Ramirez.

McCourt had a lengthy meeting with Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, and they are working toward consummating a two-year, $45-million contract, which still includes a player option to remain with the team the second year.

<snip>

"I'm happy in L.A. I like my teammates and had a great time. The fans were so good to me; they treated me the best anywhere in my career. And now I think we're close ."

OH JESUS J CHRIST :puke:

"I can't wait to show those teams who passed on me," he says, sounding more motivated than devastated.

"Tell everyone Mannywood is coming -- now go call Jeff Kent."

What a prick

1. According to the Boston media, he has a deal with LA
They just have to make it final.

I never had a doubt he'd sign with the Dodgers. (But I've been wrong before.) Manny just doesn't like being part of Spring Training.

2. Wonder if any L.A. fans still want to bust the Sox chops for unloading the smeghead.
Took them a matter of months to see the type of guy Manny is. Now they know why Boston fans gave Bay a standing O in his first plate appearance. :)

Manny is one of the best hitters I've ever seen. He's also a child.

17. Yeah, it took them a matter of months
to see what kind of guy Manny is...

In 53 games:

17 long ones
53 ribbies
.396 avg.
.489 OBP
.743 SLG

not to mention tearing it up in the playoffs. And everyone said he wouldn't hit as well in that pitcher's park, Dodgers Stadium, than he did at the bandbox they call Fenway Park lol.

Yeah, we Dodger fans are just SO upset to have him back LOL

Of course, I can understand why cboy is upset. Manny will put about 4 or 5 long ones into McShlubby Cove this season.

I think he is good for the sport.

5. Why?
How is his poor work ethic and greedy behavior good for the sport.

He's a terrible role model.

Let's hope little boys who go to Dodger Stadium to watch him play don't grow up and behave the same way at their offices.

6. So far he has one thing going for him that a lot of other baseball players
don't have.

He's not part of the roid-rager gang!

8. How do you know?
Weren't you claiming A-Fraud wasn't juicing before the recent revelations?...

9. Well, first of all,
I'm not sure that society should expect professional athletes to be role models for youth. A few of them are probably up to the job, but overall, it's not where good role models are going to be found. Still, kids can survive baseball's curious figures -- I read Jim Bouton's "Ball Four," and survived.

I kind of like his work ethic. He has attitude. A certain style. I wish he was a Yankee.

10. Yes H20 Man, but you didn't answer why an asshole like
Manny is good for baseball.

What? Because he generates interest and perhaps brings people to the stadiums?

(Wait until he hears the reception he'll be getting in San Francisco this season).

So yea, why is he good for the sport?

12. There are a lot
of people who agree with you, and dislike him. There are also a lot of people who agree with me, and like him. In both cases, he draws interest. Some of that interest is, of course, "controversy." And that's a good thing. It creates interest, including people who want to see the guy fail. In my opinion, an athlete who generates this level of interest in a sport is good for that sport.

Another example would be a basketball player, who we will code-name "A.I." There are people who don't like him. And there are people like myself, who really enjoy his contributions. I'd love him to come to the Knicks.

Now, I'm sure that at this point, this won't surprise you: but when I used to box in cities like Syracuse, there were always a lot of fans that didn't like me, and wanted to see me take a whipping in the ring. Didn't like my attitude (I know, I know, hard to believe). That was a good thing.

13. Alright, well fair enough. You have every right, obviously,
to hold that opinion even though I still don't know how thugs are good for a sport like baseball.

One can then argue A-Roid is good for baseball because the controversy he's generated with his steroid abuse will probably also draw additional fans who want to taunt him and see him fail.

Is that what baseball should be about? Loading up teams with players the baseball world wants to see fail?

And why in the hell would you want the Knicks to acquire AI?

You must be satisfied with their losing ways.

11. You had to know he was going to sign.
He's way too good to be left out in the cold. Someone was going to pay him. Why such hate and anger?

14. He doesn't like spring training.
So this let him miss a bunch of it.

He's the best right-handed hitter of his generation. Without him, the Dodgers are swirling the bowl.

But's he's also an enormous pain in the ass.

Have fun.

15. I'm amused that more people don't view Manny badly for quitting on his team last year
Besides Red Sox fan's of course.

I don't care for either Boston or the Dodgers, so it's no skin off of my back, but if he did that with the Angels I would hate his guts. So I can see where BoSox fans are coming from.

I wonder what the over/under is on him going nuts in LA sometime this year.
