Watching an old football game
I'm watching the old Nov 3, 1985 Bears-Packers game on NFL Network. It's a bit different not having all the modern viewing aids like the clock/score on the screen all the time or the lines showing where the first down marker would be.

1. I like the first down marker graphics...
And the clock. But there are way too many other graphics. And way too much dizzying animation.

3. I would be fine with just the clock, score, down, to go, and lines
But they can leave all that other crap out.

4. Maybe I missed it
but I have yet to see a classic game involving a 49er victory on the NFL Network. Meanwhile, I've been exposed to Cowgirl victories in both the '92 and '95 NFC Championship games.

5. Maybe people have gotten tired of what used to be considered
the forty-whiners broadcasting network.

6. I think it's more a case
of the NFL Network showing favoritism to Dallas...maybe they figure their classic games will receive higher ratings due to the large amount of Cowgirl bandwagon fans...you know the type.

7. Well, you do realize that the Cowboy's are America's Team!!
We go well beyond the normal regional boundaries that confine most usual sports franchises!

14. Sniff...snifff...I smell flamebait here
Especially when it comes to my least favorite team in all of the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys!

8. I could live without the first down marker - football for dummies IMO
but I do like having the score. I was recently watching a re-broadcast of Michigan's 1989 win over Seton Hall in 1989, and the scoring updates were hilarious. It was as if someone kept sticking in a plastic sheet from an overhead projector over the camera with the new score.

12. Not having the game clock on all the time drove me up the wall
Because I'd lose track pretty quickly of where they were in the game, or how much longer the game would go on for. I really liked when they put the time and score up because then I'd know precisely where they were in the game and what the score was, I wouldn't have to wait five minutes to find out either.

13. Showing the running clock and score was an offshoot of the 1994 World Cup
When it was held in the US. It was one of those d'oh! moments. I think Fox was the first to do it the next fall, for the NFL, and everyone else quickly followed suit. The Europeans were way ahead of us on that one, though of course they did it because of the running clock with no breaks and it was a way to get some advertising up there during the game. I'm not the world's biggest fan of soccer, but the game vs. the clock is a very exciting part of it - especially at the end, when you don't know how much extra time there will be.

15. who watches taped games?
I had Dave Stewart's no-hitter against the Blue Jays from way back when on tape, but I never watched it again after I taped it. Also taped Mike Tyson being pummeled by Buster Douglas....remember the fight that was over almost before it begun? Never watched that one again either. Something about knowing what's going to happen ahead of time just ruins it for me. I don't know why.

16. I hate all that crap.
Although I enjoy the original "Fox-box", I can do without all the additional e-graphics. Not event the first-down line. Just give me the time and score. Show me the game as nature intdended. I think it's dumbing down the viewer if he/she is too lazy to keep track of downs and line of scrimmage.
