WTF!? Cal Bear Women lose to USC? Worst. Call. Ever. (EDITED)
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 10:19 PM by ColbertWatcher
Okay, I'm pissed.

USC is up 69-67 against Cal with .3 seconds left.

The previous call was reviewed to see how much time was left on the clock, the .3 was not changed.

Cal throw the ball in at half court, Ashley Walker gets it shoots and scores. Fifteen mintues later, refs lawyer up and do not count the shot.

No OT, USC given the game.

Damn I'm pissed.

3. Cal should have won that game, should have blown USC out...
...that said, I didn't see the call, but it sounds like it did suck.

4. Here's what happened
at least how it was explained before the second game......according to the rulebook, you can't catch and shoot with only .3 seconds left, it must be a tap in. Why the officials weren't aware of that to begin with and why it took them so long to eventually figure it out, I don't know...but it appears they got the call right.

6. It looks like the college version is very clear - no basket
Art. 9. In any period, when the game clock displays 10ths of seconds and play
is to be resumed by a throw-in or a free throw when 3/10 (.3) of a second or less
remains on the game clock, a player may not gain possession of the ball and try for
a field goal. Such player can only score a field goal by means of a tap of the pass
or of a missed free throw.

7. True, but ...
... the call just prior to that had to be reviewed to make sure the clock was set correctly.

That's the bad call. It looked as though the play was whistled dead at .7 seconds, instead of the .3 that the ref allowed to stand.

It was at that point the ref gave the game to USC.
