Former pro wrestler found dead in Tampa

TAMPA, FL -- A former professional wrestling champion was found dead inside his Tampa apartment Friday night, just days before his 34th birthday.

Andrew "Test" Martin, who wrestled for almost 10 years, mostly for World Wrestling Entertainment, was found dead inside his apartment on Harbor Place Drive around 8 o'clock.

4. I am reserving judgement.
But look his body, huge slabs of muscle. Regular athletes don't look like that.

3. If this wasn't a suicide, then it had to be the long term effects of performance-enhancing drugs.
Test was a big tall guy (6'9", IIRC), but lean when he started; never "stacked" big until recent times.

Condolences to his family.

5. could be a lot of things - wrestlers tend to die young
living on the road 300 days a year has an awful lot of physical and emotional stresses. Between self medicating the emotional with drugs or alcohol, which in turn affects physically, and the physical stress taking it's toll on the body.......well these guys are just fighting up hill to begin with.....not to mention the toll in ring - the outcomes are pre-determined and a lot of the punches are fake, but you can't fake a body through a table, onto concrete or bending up a metal chair on someone's head.

7. There is dying young (50's) and then there is dying at 34.....
chances are it was a heart condition or an overdose... 34 year olds rarely keel over from wear.

11. They showed some wrestler
in the crowd of the Sharks game last night. I don't remember his name but it must have been someone relatively well known. Anyway what I do recall is that it looked like he had a cauliflower ear..

BTW, what's pro wrestling doing in the sports section?

12. This is not your forum, moran. If someone wants to post about pro-wrestling
here, it is their right. If you don't like it then go find yourself another forum.

Were you at the Sharks game last night?

I don't consider pro wrestling a sport....I doubt if you do either, so stop beefing.

15. Oh. So you saw it on TV. I see.
BTW, whether or not I consider pro-wrestling a real sport is really a moot point. If someone wants to post about pro-wrestling here, that's fine with me. I always have the option of ignoring it, just like a lot of the asshattery about real sports and real sports fans posted by you and cboy!!

16. I met him a couple of times.
Once at a gym and once at a grocery store. Pretty quiet guy, considering his ring persona (at least the two off chances I got to say hi to him).

When I was on the BOD of the local humane society, he won a bunch of money for us on one of those celebrity challenge shows. Nice guy.

17. Good lord, another one?
This goes to show what a cutthroat, high pressure business professional wrestling is these days.
