Preseason visit to Dallas palace for 49ers
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/03/30/SPD316PGER.DTL

(03-30) 12:49 PDT -- Ownership of the 49ers will likely experience a severe case of stadium-envy this August when the team plays the Dallas Cowboys at Jerry Jones' billion-dollar palace in the third week of the preseason.

The 49ers announced their preseason opponents Monday, with dates and times to be determined later. The 49ers will play their first two exhibition games at Candlestick Park against Denver and Oakland and go on the road for the last two, at Dallas and San Diego.

The contrast between where the 49ers play and where the Cowboys will soon call home could not be greater. Despite a keen desire for a new stadium, the 49ers are stuck in Candlestick, the oldest non-renovated facility in the NFL. Dallas' new 80,000-seat $1.3 billion stadium, in suburban Arlington, will open on June 6 with a George Strait concert.

..snip

Welcome to Dallas!!

1. "stadium envy"?
Hmmm--you know some of us prefer our old stadiums to the new soulless ones....:P
BTW, figgures that the opening concert for them would be George Strait....I think at FedEx the first concert was the Stones...

I think if you look at the history of the Cowboys franchise it will not match up with the flippant assessment you have just given them.

Have you been taking your hyperbole lessons from another DU'er we are quite familiar with?

the Cowboys are a rather pedestrian 2-3 in Super Bowls.

Look, why don't you do yourself a favor... renounce this misguided infatuation you have with a team 1/2 continent away and embrace the rules of the REAL sports fan.

You'll no longer feel the shame and humiliation which accompanies the end of every Cowboy season, and you'll feel better about yourself.. in knowing that you're no longer a bandwagon jumper but can be counted among those who can proudly say..."I'm a REAL sports fan."

14. I find it interesting that you make a false claim, and then follow it
up with the same old tired lines that have already been debunked as passe.

The Cowboys as you mention did make 5 trips to the super bowl in their first 30 years of existence in addition to a championship game pre-SB.

9. Beautiful playing venues don't guarantee shite.
Ask the San Francisco Giants.

And after a few years of continued failure, I'll be able to say, "ask the stunningly unsuccessful Dallas Cowboys." (Even though that new monstrosity is just as ugly as all of the other dome stadiums).

When you win World Championships, you rarely hear complaints about the stadium .. with the exception, perhaps of the greedy owners.

I can wait until the Niners get their new stadium in a few years in either Santa Clara or San Francisco.

It will coincide with them back at the top in the NFL.

19. I really should cut a check to Barry for the incredible joy
and excitement he brought to San Francisco.

Despite only one World Series trip, I mean, the 73 homer season alone was arguably more exciting over the course of 162 games, than any 4-7 game World Series title.

Just unbelievable.

Pure joy for the hundreds of games I watched him play at home.

And I'm gloating because I told everyone from day one that Barry was innocent and I was right, despite being heavily outnumbered under hostile circumstances.

Nice try though.

and sending many a checks to your Barry-god who was only able to lead your team ONCE to the World Series, and yet still managed to choke.

Maybe you really need to think about the REAL Giants heroes, like Willie Mays, Juan Marichal, Willie McCovey, and yes Bobby Bonds.

Have you actually been to a Giants game or are referring to the games you watched them on TV.

24. If anything..the evidence points in the opposite direction
Prosecutors postponed the trial because they don't have the evidence to convict Barry of lying when he said he didn't knowingly take steroids...

It's pretty simple, even for a Bonds hater, if he's not lying he must be telling the truth.

50. 83 team had some of the best offensive numbers EVER
compiled in the NFL history. Has anyone even come close to the +40 turnover ratio? I think not. Skins well deserved to be in that SB...If you listen to what the players said, you will hear that they got cocky and partied too hard before the game.
I never particularly rooted for or agaisnt the 49'ers (except when they played the Bengals in the SB).
I can't believe you are holding a 25 year old grudge for that game..The 49'ers got a few breaks in other NFC title/playoff games agaisnt the Skins as I recall...

REAL sports fans never forget when their team has been cheated....as the 49ers were in '83. That game lives in 49er history as the year we wuz robbed.

You seem to suggest the Redskins may have gotten some breaks. So I'm sure you remember the great 49er comeback, tying the score at 21.. The Niners had all the momentum and the Redskins were on the ropes, then the phantom pass interference calls started...

The NFL seemed determined to put Theismann and the Redskins in the SB that year, they couldn't have an underdog 49er team ruining the party.

We will never forget.

60. The '83 NFC Championship game lives in NFL infamy
In that game Montana brought the 49ers back from a 21-0 4th quarter deficit, one of his greatest comebacks ever that is sometimes overlooked because the NFL had it's own surreptitious agenda.. that of making sure Theismann and the Redskins got to the SB, no matter what it took and how bad it looked.

Lets look at some numbers..the 'Skins were outscored 21-3 in the 4th quarter of the Championship game, and 38-9 in the SB they didn't belong in. So, in the final 5 quarters of that season the Redskins were outscored by their opponents 59-12...and this is the team I hear Redskin fans suggest is one of the best ever?...how pathetic.

What does it say about a franchise that will accept a tainted victory and then pretend it never happened? The only good that came out of it is after the SB humiliation, I'm sure some Redskin fans had wished they had never been handed the NFC Championship to begin with.

Still though, all REAL 49er fans will never forgive or forget the officials escorting the Redskins down the field in the final 6 minutes of a game that will forever live in NFL infamy.

Seriously, dude you have issues if this game still sticks with you. I know Montana and Rice got the benefit of many many calls in many many games (including a SB or two). So quit your pathetic whining. You look ridiculous.
I doubt if anyone outside of SF even thinks about this game. Oh and I wouldn't call the SF media exactly an UNBIASED source.
If you look up the word "sour grapes" in the dictionary you and your twin will be there...
