And Cutler's new team is....
Da Bears!

Broncos agree to trade Cutler to Chicago

ENGLEWOOD - The Denver Broncos say the team has agreed to trade quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears.

According to a news release from the team, the deal has been agreed to "in principle" and that terms will be "disclosed at a later time."

9NEWS has learned that in exchange for Cutler and the Broncos' 2009 fifth round draft pick, the Broncos will get Bears quarterback Kyle Orton, the Bears' 2009 first round draft pick (Number 18), the Bears' 2009 third round pick and the Bears' 2010 first round pick.

Looks like Chris Simms is our new starting QB.

1. Apparantly the Washington Redskins offered to trade Jason Cambell
for Cutler. Here's hoping Cambell doesn't react like Cutler...:eyes:

3. If he does, you've always got Colt
which would put me in a rather awkward position, to say the least...

9. Jason is not that type.
He is more of a humble, low-key type of guy.

4. That sounds like an awfully steep price
it will be interesting to see how it works out. It'll also be interesting to see what the Broncos do for a QB.

Chicago has been a QB graveyard, what if Cutler flops after they've given up so much?...

5. They should've offered Brian Urlacher instead of the '10 1st rounder.
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 06:17 PM by BulletproofLandshark
I don't know how it would work under the cap, but Urlacher is on the decline. But I still think they should have tried to lure Denver into taking him. 2 first rounders AND a 3rd AND Orton is WAYYYY too high a price for someone like Cutler.

6. So who is going to actually CATCH Cutler's passes?
The Bears still don't have any good recievers.

11. My first thought as well.
While I hate seeing duh Bears finally land a legitimate franchise QB, there's still that tiny problem of who'll be on the receiving end of those throws.

7. Dan Snyder was snookered big time
Everyone in his brother knew he really wanted Cutler. That should certainly undermine Jason Cambell. It's one thing to explore or even attempt a trade, it's another to lust after a trade. Once again Danny boy has undermined his franchise.

10. Jason Campbell's a grown ass man.
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 07:10 PM by BulletproofLandshark
He'll be fine. Even he has to realize that this sort of thing is just part of the game. That Cutler didn't speaks volumes about where his head's at. And Snyder "lusted" after a trade? You should take that mind-reading talent of yours to Atlantic City. The only real loser in this is going to be the Bears. There is no way in hell Cutler was worth everything the Bears gave up to get him.

15. I see it differently
first off Cambell has not produced like Cutler has. So while in Denver trade talks were about fit and plans, in Washington it was about Cambell being good enough. As for Snyder's lusting, that was a matter of public record, no mind reading needed. If you are a serious follower of the sport you know that once Denver said a trade was going to happen, there was a steady stream of news reports about Snyder's frantic efforts to aquire Cutler. In fact there are some after reports that suggest the biggest problem was that no one wanted Cambell.

All this serves to undermine Cambell's confidence as well as the teammate's confidence in him. The closest thing you have to a mitigating factor is it appears Zorn is a pretty good coach and has done all he can do to lessen the impact of his owner's follies.

16. Campbell production has more to with the talent around him than anything else.
No QB could have done well under the pass rush Campbell faced all season. But if you were a serious follower of the sport you would already know that.

17. What I know about Cambell is that he was not a sure thing coming out of college
If I remember correctly he has already had 5 different OCs and offensive systems. I can't see many QBs thriving in that sort of environment. So the real question is can the poor start, and the damage it caused, be undone. Can he still get the time to stay in one system and master it. Drafting and developing good QBs is a difficult proposition. There are just as many failures as successes. At this point in his career, I know he is no match for the QBs he faces with in his own division. I also think his future is uncertain. So anything that could undermine his progress (like his owner sending a big message that he doesn't think Cambell is good enough or his choice to run the team) could send his future in the wrong direction.

Look at the Giants number 2 QB, David Carr. He has all the talent in the world (befitting his number one pick over all). Yet he was so badly battered in the Texan's system, that he is now damaged goods. He may yet overcome that bad start, but it's a crap shoot at best. So it's not just the talent, but how it is groomed, that eventually decides a QB's success or failure.

21. The O line pass blocking sucked.
The receivers, other than Moss and Cooley, are nothing to write home about. The 3 rookie receivers they drafted contributed almost nothing.

18. The lack of Cutler had nothing to do with Cambell
It had everything to do with the Skins only have FIVE draft choices and therefore not enough picks to give away to Denver.

20. That's not what the Washington Examiner is reporting

In the end, Denver did not want Jason Campbell. And that’s why Jay Cutler is headed to Chicago.
According to a source involved in the discussions, the Redskins were closing in on a three-way deal Thursday afternoon that involved Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn going to Denver. The source said he was told that the deal was likely to happen soon. The Examiner reported that a deal was close. Indeed, a CBS affiliate in Denver also reported that Jay Cutler had told them he was told by his agent that he was going to Washington. ESPN also reported that the Redskins were at the top of the list and a deal could happen at any time.

However, the deal involving the Browns unraveled, prompting Chicago to jump back in and offer a less-complicated deal, knowing the Broncos liked Bears quarterback Kyle Orton. The source said Denver’s preference of quarterbacks was Quinn and then Orton. They were not high on Campbell.

32. As a Bears fan I am ecstatic.
My dad made me a Bears fan as a kid telling me all about the Great Sid Luckman. The funny thing is that Luckman retired before my dad was born! Cutlers numbers last season would've been a Bears record for yards, %, QB rating and TDs I believe. To have a gunslinging QB on the Bears is something that even really old Bears fans have never seen. It is just so unBearlike to make this trade; maybe conservatism IS dead!
