3. How many winning seasons have the Giants had since 1992?
That would be 10...by contrast, the Pirates have had 0... that's right, a big fat ZERO

And now they stand on the precipice of setting possibly the most embarrassing record in sport's history. Obviously Pirates fans will attempt to shift attention away from such a dubious achievement. However, their efforts only serve to highlight the ineptitude of such a pathetic team.

7. I can show you minor league teams that make money too
the Pirates seem to be following their example....particularly in the area of cheap players, as they are third from the bottom in team payroll.

Everything about the Pirates is minor league.

17. The last one was 29 long years ago
and how many losing seasons have the minor league Pirates had since that time?....21, TWENTY ONE losing seasons..including 16 in a row.

The Pirates are an embarrassment to the league and the city of Pittsburgh, they are the joke of baseball. It's too bad MLB doesn't have the rules that exist in soccer..for the Pirates would have been relegated long ago, down to triple A where they rightly belong.

If the Pirates can't compete on a major league level, the International League beckons...it truly would be best for all concerned.

18. Seems to me
the Giants were in the WS in 1989, well before Bonds ever came on the scene. 1989 was a banner year for the Pirates as well, they won 74 whole games.

Everything about the Pirates says minor league.

14. When was the last time the Dodgers were even in the world
series?

Something like three decades ago or so?

Embarrassing.

The Giants have been in two since the last time LA was there.

It was how many they won---not lost.

16. Hmm, I seem to remember them making a little noise back in '88.
You know, Hershiser and Kirk Gibson's legendary shot and all that stuff.

And unlike the Giants, the Dodgers actually cashed in once they got there. Come to think of it, how many World Series have the Giants won since they left New York?

13. Do they have noose day at PNC Park so all of the Pirates'
fans who have to realize by now the team will never finish at .500 again in a million years, can just hang themselves?

It would be a good way to go .. you know, at the park, along with 8,700 other fans or however many is a big crowd in Pittsburgh.

20. Look at this
The NL average attendance for 2008 was 34,201

The Pirates averaged but 20,113 per game last year, their lowest since 1998.

While the Giants averaged 35,356

21. Right---but attendance has declined each year since 99
1999---40,900--- to 35,356 in 2008.

I suspect another couple of shitty seasons and the Gnats will be back to their Candlestick days of 20,000.

You're lucky they moved the park into the city, otherwise you would be at 20 grand.

23. Actually you are incorrect
attendance has not "declined each year since 99"...it improved over the year before in 2003 and 2007. Here, check it out..

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/sfatte.shtml

Now admittedly 2008 was the smallest average since the new park opened, but last year's team only won 72 games and still attendance was above the major league average.

24. I wouldn't say so
the Giants won NL Pennants in 1962, '89, and '02. Plus they won division titles in 1971, 1987,1997 ,2000, and 2003.

Notice that the majority of the Giants success came during the Pirates incredibly inept streak of 16 consecutive losing seasons. The Giants are a team of the present, with a bright future. The Pirates are a team of the past, with no future at all...in fact, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe the Pirates losing streak will end anytime soon.

The shame and humiliation a Pirates fan must endure must be nearly overwhelming.

26. It's interesting to watch their standards shift.
When we talk about football, it's all about the Super Bowl. When the conversation turns to baseball, it suddenly becomes about winning seasons.

Weird, huh?
