Sharks win President's Trophy
Despite losing to the Kings today, the Sharks (53-18-11) secured the top record in the NHL for the first time in club history when the Bruins lost 6-1 at Buffalo earlier Saturday.

The Sharks haven't been playing that well of late and have been very inconsistent the last couple of months. Lets hope it doesn't carry over into the playoffs....I want a Stanley Cup.

9. On the contrary
Currently the team has 13 players on the roster that came via the draft:

1994 - Evgeny Nabokov
1997 - Patrick Marleau
1998 - Jonathan Cheechoo
1999 - Doug Murray
2001 - Marcel Goc, Christian Ehrhoff, Ryan Clowe, Tomas Pilhal
2003 - Milan Michalek, Joe Pavelski
2004 - Torrey Mitchell
2005 - Devin Setogutchi, Marc Eduoard Vlasic

Oh yeah sure, I'd much rather live in cold polluted and crowded Pittsburgh than on the west coast.

10. Live there. Play volleyball.
Pittsburgh is not polluted. We closed the mills in the 70's, genius.

And I never heard of any of those players except Murray.

13. Let me get this straight
you've never heard of Nabokov, Marleau or Cheecho...and you claim to be a hockey fan? Sounds more like you're a hockey homer.

BTW here's a little something brought to you by the American Lung Association:

4 May 2008: Pittsburgh has replaced Los Angeles as the most polluted city in the US. The Pennsylvanian city with a population of some 335,000 heads the list of cities most polluted by short-term levels of particle pollution, a deadly cocktail of ash, soot, diesel exhaust, chemicals, metals and aerosols that can spike dangerously for hours to weeks on end. This type of air pollution can trigger serious problems such as breathing, asthma and heart attacks, strokes, lung cancer and even early death. Pittsburgh also ranks second on the list of cities with the most year-round particle pollution while Los Angeles again claims the first spot this year

Got anything else to say Mr Pollution?

WTF is "short term particle pollution?"

I question those findings.

17. You question the findings Mr Pollution?
When presented with evidence from a reputable source that directly contradicts your claim, what else can you do?

I do have a suggestion however..if I were you I'd be screened at regular intervals for lung cancer, even if you don't smoke.

I don't consider the American Lung Association findings reputable.

The EPA, yes.

24. Wonderful
ozone wise you're doing okay but in particle pollution...you're NUMBER ONE

Pittsburgh, America's "Steel City," snagged a second designation — albeit a negative one — this week when, for the first time, the American Lung Association designated it the most air-polluted U.S. city.

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Weather/story?id=4758772&page=1

Notice San Jose, home of the Presidents Trophy winning Sharks, does not appear on either list.

25. Particulates which drift in from Browns fans. Its their fault.
You have five nearby cities on the list.

They probably get your pollution.

Then again, foreclosures don't pollute. And you lead in that.

16. Its Ohio's fault.
"Pittsburgh recently wrested the title of America’s most polluted city from Los Angeles—at least when it comes to short-term particle pollution like soot, aerosols, heavy metals and exhaust. But the city of 335,000, which has transitioned from an industrial town to one of the country’s most livable cities, may not be to blame for its bad air. According to some research, much of Pittsburgh’s pollution is blown in from factories and power plants in Ohio."

BTW - we're the most livable city.

27. Nabokov is surely one of the NHL's better goalies.
And Cheechoo scored 56 goals in 05-06 to lead the NHL.

That said, I still don't see them being around in May.

21. True
but the two main players involved in the trade for Thornton were Marco Sturm and Brad Stuart..both of whom were drafted by the Sharks. The Sharks have one of the top organizations in hockey, with a stocked minor league system. That's why you rarely see them signing free agents.

BTW..hows that cough?

31. The Sharks are a lot bigger and faster than the Pens
Mr. Person doesn't even know the names of most of the best Sharks players. Has Mr. Person even seen a single Sharks game this season (other than the Pittsburgh ones)? I have seen plenty of Pittsburgh games and I watch highlights of other games every night. I think I'm better informed than Mr. Person on the various hockey teams and their strengths and weaknesses. Until Mr. person gets better informed on other teams, his opinion is fail.

The Sharks are a much better, balanced team than Pittsburgh. Show me one non-partisan sports writer who is picking the Pens to go further than San Jose in the playoffs....

33. Which means nothing. Now the real fun starts.
The President's Trophy is nice and all, don't get me wrong. Having the best record in the league is hardly a bad thing. But let's face it, in hockey there's only one meaningful piece of hardware.
