9. I was lucky enough to meet Harry 3 seasons ago
My wife and I went to Wrigley for the first time. We were going to hang out around Wrigleyville, but the friends we were meeting up with were running late, so we went inside the park to the Beergarden, behind home plate. We are sitting and out comes Harry Kalas, white shoes, loud clothes and all. My wife sees him first and I am awestruck, too nervous to go over to him. But I did, and while he smoked I stammered like a schoolboy how much I loved the Phils, how I followed them since 64, how much I missed Whitey and had a picture of him on my desk at work. I told him my wife and I were from Indianapolis and he looked at me and said in that inimical voice...."You're not a COLTS fan are ya?" I pulled back my Phillies jacket I was wearing and showed him the Eagles polo shirt I had on underneath, and he smiled said, you should always be loyal to the Phillies AND the Silver and Green! I was like a school kid and I was 46 or 47 THEN.

I've been tearing up since I heard the news. Harry and Whitey and for you old-time Phillies fans, By Saam and Bill Campbell are part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Bosshog will know what I am talking about. Those guys are family and they will be missed greatly.

Crap, I'm crying again.

10. Hey Voltaire
A sad time in deed for the greatest spotsfans ever. I broke out my Harry Kalas CD and listened to Schmidt's 500th homerun call over and over again as I drove into town. "Samuel on third, Hayes on first, two outs ninth inning Phillies trail 6-5. Here's the stretch by Robinson. The three-0h pitch, SWING AND A LONG DRIVE, THERE IT IS NUMBER 500, THE CAREER 500TH HOME RUN OF MICHAEL JACK SCHMIDT.

FYI My Friend - www.baseballvoices.com. Harry's CD is awesome.

By Saam and Bill Campbell and Johnny Callison and Clay Dalrymple and Tony Gonzalez and yes, even Gene Mauch.

Thanks Guys for all the memories. And God Bless you Harry Kalas!!

I will be making a Schmidt/Kalas tribute post this Friday in memory of the that 500th homerun 18 April 1987.

11. Thanks for that link
I just ordered that. If I didn't have a seminar to attend this coming weekend, I would be at Citizen's Bank on Saturday for the memorial. But I'll always have Harry and Whitey right where I want them. In my heart.

12. Hey - just as an FYI....
they announced today - via the Phillies website - that they're doing something special on Friday as well, before the game.

Don't know if you can make it or not, but I thought I'd let you know. My brother and I will be at both. :)

13. I'll be stuck here in Indy I'm afraid
If you can get some pictures, please post them. I figure that the Phillies will put together a DVD about Harry similar to the one they put together about Whitey and I can see it all then, maybe on YouTube as well.

Go Phils!

6. I've been watching Action News 6, since 5pm.
They've done a lot of coverage, and the tears won't leave my eyes. I can't believe he's really gone.

I'm gonna try to go to the game on Friday - I imagine it will be sold out, though.
